when I did a roof plan in autocad I used a rafter symbol with the direction and associated callout

is trhere a way to do that in revit or do I have to layout beams under structures like I did for rim joists and sill plates

-You can use a Symbol, or Text with Leader Arrow--if you don't want or need to actually model the framing.

-However, you will likely get more value from the model if you create the framing in 3D.

-You can use a Beam System. https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit-products/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2016/ENU/Revit-Model/files/GUID-53449E14-6E16-4641-9023-332CC40DD59A-htm.html

Works really well.

-You can then Tag all of the framing members with a Structural Framing Tag.
