I am trying to make a round concrete footings that acts much the same as a rectangular footing. I would like to be able to select the diameter and the depth. I created a circular extrusion and created diameter and footing height parameters but when I make (3) different 'types' in the family with various diameter dimensions, the reference lines adjust but the extrusion does not grow or shrink according to the dimensions/ref. lines. i looked at the set up of the rectangular footing family and when you are in the family editor, the extrusion changes size when the different types are chosen. what am i missing in the family i created?

Thank you for the help.

I have attached the family file that i have created so far. there are supposed to be three instances of circular footings: 12", 16" and 18" diameters. right now i have the depth set to 2' but it would be nice to be able to adjust that with each type. The current issue is that the size of the actual extrusion does not change even though in the type settings the diameter has the appropriate value. the size of the extrusion does not match the parameter value for diameter. not sure why.

Thank you -

You needed to tie the radius of your extrusion to a parameter.

I added a Radius parameter and set it equal to Diameter / 2

Then I set the radius of the extrusion to the parameter and constrained the circle to the center lines.

The attached file should accomplish what you were trying to do.

Perhaps it is because revit is prioritizing the Radius origin in the family. We were utterly unable to make it work until we renamed the dimension as Radius. Also many thanks for the smart reviteer who posted the formula as D/2 which worked even better . . . well they actually worked equally well but i like his thoughts.

I am guessing that the radius needs to be priotorized because it is the origin point. . . ?

Now if only someone could show me how to get rid of leaders being all strangely aligned whenever i restart Revit! And while u are thinking about overriding global inane setups . . . why should we EVER have to be denied the ability to open up a window so we don't have to scroll to find something?

Mahalo

Revit is a never ending churn . . . delightful but oy vei sometimes eh?
