Locking Rebar numbers

Is there any way to lock rebar numbers?

I have some concrete changes during construction in my fully reinforced project. Due to this changes some bars changed and off course the numbers changed. I can give most of the rebars back their Original lengths and they get their numbers back (would be nice if I could lock some lengths as wel). But my rebar with number 13 jumped to the end of the rebar list (now 36) Number 13 is now an empty space but I want and I need 36 to be 13.

I understand what happened.

A new rebar schedule (other partition) with a numbering from 67 to 138.

So I had to change the structure.

Rebar 69 (one set of 53 bars, one set of 108, one of 4, one of 10 and one of 35 = 210 bars).

I started to change the first concrete element (50mm longer), which is a floor (set of 53 and 108 bars).

Problem is that I modeled a second floor (set of 4, 10 and 35 bars).

So when I changed the concrete form of rebar 69 the second floor still had the original rebar number 69.

Revit created a new number (139) which is logical.

When I changed the second floor Revit did see that rebar number 69 has the same shape of 139.

So 69 became 139 and 69 became obsolete (disappeared).

This is also logical but it would be great if Revit could give a warning for this or even let me choose between 139 or the spare "slot" 69.

Now I have to do a very time consuming manual renumbering process.

I understand that I had to model the floor in one piece but I am sure I will encounter this problem again in other sutuations (and sometimes it won't be possible to model it in one piece).

Is there really no way I can change number 139 to the (spare) 69?

Hi, FDC,

I'm Judy from Revit/Navisworks support, and I see you have a question about locking rebar numbers which I'll be happy to help you with.

It sounds like after you made some changes to your model, one of your rebar numbers was changed to a different number but you need to reset it to the original number, and this is requiring a lot of manual work.

I found a Revit Structure blog post called Revit Reinforcement - Keeping a check on Bar Marks in which the user describes a Dynamo script he created exactly for this situation. Although it doesn't "lock" the number, it does allow you to synchronize the Rebar Number to the Schedule Mark so you can reset it easily if needed.

You may already be familiar with Modifying Rebar Numbering Sequences from the Revit help, but I'm including the link here for others who may have similar questions.

In Korea, no one is working on this rebar reinforcement with revit now

so I learnt almost everything through youtube and this forum

For example, your tags (I've never seen the tags with colors and shapes like you did)

There was no pics about your schedule but I'm sure you did them well too

I know your country and Korea have different regulations and rules,

but if you share your file, it would be great for me

I am quite busy for the moment (I have to deliver my plans) so I will be back at you later.

In Belgium only a few are using Revit for rebar but I never found someone who is doing it the way I do.

It is too complex the way I do it (especially the tagging) but IMHO this is how rebar plans should look like.

Dear Judy,

I checked your solution but the Dynamo script had to be run PRIOR to the first issue of the reinforcement.

The reinforcement was already issued and changed.

Like I said it would be VERY, and I mean really VERY usefull (I even call it vital) if I could lock my rebar numbers so Revit doesn't delete the existing rebar numbers (or please give me a alert window if a number is getting deleted).

For example:

Rebar 69 has 100 bars with a length of 1200

When I change 50 bars of the 100 to a length of 1300 Revit creates a new rebar number at the end of the list.

Let's say the new number is 718.

So fine so good.

When I now change the last 50 rebars of number 69 to 1300 instead of 1200 Revit is matching this new rebar to number 718 because of the same form.

Rebar number 69 is forever gone now.

There should be an alert for this!

I will NEVER want number 69 to be gone and replaced by number 718.

Don't ever delete existing rebar numbers without an alert!

I hope you understand my problem.
