@Anonymous hello,

Just make sure your (.rfa) is set up with instance parameter option and that you create family types for the four frames. You would go to edit the .rfa and click on "New type" . Make sure you select instance parameter for each of the four types. Then you can select "Type of parameter" click on the Yes/No type. Then under the drop down for "Group" put under the family category section you want to see the four frame check boxes appear to toggle on/off and load that family type into your project.

Hello,

Absolute beginner in REVIT, just before we dwell into this. I just starting working with BIM, so I'm still getting around it somehow.

I have a .rfa file of a chair. That chair has a 4 set of "frames", Wired frame etc etc. Problem is, that it automatically shows all 4 frames at the same time, regardless of what "frame" is currently selected. This creates a problem for future exports. My question is, how do I hide "frames" that are currently not selected and make them disappear?

Hi Abigail,

Thank you for your answer. If I understood correctly what you mean, that's already set up? I'm sorry, like I said, I'm a beginner in REVIT and trying to learn as much as I can for work. I attached a SS, I do have 4 options there already. But, no matter what option I choose, other 3 frames are still shown, which is a problem for exports.

Is there a way to create 4 individual families (.rfas) out of parametric one? is there a standard way of utilizing REVIT for that?

First check your family is setup properly. Check family types and it should have those 4 chair options linked to graphics parameters similar to the clip attached.

If that is correct, check each family element is linked to the proper graphics parameters for each element.

When a family is working properly there is no need for 4 different families when you can use 1.

@Anonymous hi,

As TinaWebb commented you must set up that family with the four frames correctly to be able to turn on off the frames. Click on your family and click on the Edit Family icon. When in the family editor click on the icon "Family Types". In the family types window look down to the bottom of that window you will see what looks like a piece of paper with a small start or light spark at the top left corner, click on that icon. This will open the Parameter Properties window. In this Parameter Properties window you need to start creating "types" for each of the four frames. For each of the 4 frames make sure to select that "Instance Parameter" check box. Type of parameter should maybe be set to "Yes/No"; Group Parameter Under should be set to "Graphics" This will make it possible for you to turn on/off the frames when you family is inserted. Make sure to load each new type into your project (Load family). The end result should be that you click on the family and in your properties browser you will see under graphics boxes next to the frames to turn on/off the frames accordingly.

Hi @Anonymous and @twebb4CYQY,

thank you both for your replies, but it seems my .rfa file is somewhat "broken". I can't neither edit the family or actually do anything with it. I don't even have "Graphics" tab under "Family Types". It just makes the entire project un-usable. But I appreciate your answers and will definitely be helpful in the future.
