Hello,

i am in the process of transitioning from AutoCAD to Revit / Advanced Steel.

Both seem to achieve my goals.

Whats the best way to determine what software is the best fit, Revit or Advanced Steel???????? Which to use and why?

i am designing pre-engineered metal buildings and need to create custom connections and components.

thank you,

From what I am researching and reading, both can not do the same thing, except that Advanced Steel is more a detailing software.

Overall, does this sound correct?

Create buildings and connections in Revit and export to Advanced Steel for detailing of custom components?

thank you in advance

Hi,
you are right if you say that both have their advantages.

If you want to "model" your project, Revit could be your choice. When it comes to detailing, you should go for Advance Steel. We have an interface between both platforms, that will allow you to round-trip your projects between both applications.

The advantage is, that you can use the best of both.

However, if you are looking for a solution for prefab-metal-building, you may want to have a look at the solutions from our partner StrucSoft Solutions:

https://strucsoftsolutions.com/mwf-pro-metal/

Hope this will help.

It is just a very brief answer, please let us know if you need more information.

Hello @cexarhos

Thank you for your forum post and welcome to the community!

You came to the right place for your question as these forums are filled with industry experts.

I wanted to first point out @Gernot.Jeromin pretty much hit the nail on the head with this thread!

Both programs have their advantages, Revit is a complete 3D modeling program but has some limitations for detailing flexibility etc., the small things when it come to structural designs. While Advanced Steel offers more precision, greater library, and would resemble the same platform you have been using already. I would encourage you to explore the free trial versions and see what feels like the best fit.

Autodesk Steel

Revit

As they work cross relationally, using both programs would be a wise choice.

I'm trasitioning into my own company. my direction is to use Revit for all the coordinaction and concrete elements (concrete structural designs) and the uso of advance Steel for all the Steel Jobs. the easy way to créate concrete shapes, add rebars inside and the easy of use made me decide the use of Revit for concrete Jobs. for the other side the excellent way to solve structural connections and the good library for miscellaneus (stairs, ladders, railings, etc) drove me to decide the use of advance Steel for structures.
