Hi Dzanta,

Thanks for the response. Yes, i have used the span marker. the issue I was having was getting it to appear when referencing structure over. I may not have posed the question well.

As it happens, I just found a work around - so if anyone else is trying to do this here is how I achieved it:

1. use the underlay to show the structure over.

2. use the linework tool to change the one edge of the line of the comflor / slab over

3. add your span arrows

4. turn off the underlay

5. use the linework tool to change the edited line in step 2, to an 'invisible line'

Showing span of floor over

Hi,

We are developing our use of Revit and trying to use it on more traditional masonry and timber domestic projects. For these, we need to show structure over. So far using the model line trick on beams we can use a normal floor plans and show the beams over (see jpg), and likewise, by using the overlay and linework command we can show penetrations and extents of roof etc over. However, the one that has me stumped is how to show span arrows. I know I could just add some in, but i want to keep it smart and linked to the floor over. using ceiling views or 'Up' views doesn't yet seem to work to give us what we want so we are tending to stick with traditional floor plans.

If i use an overlay I can get them to appear but they disappear when you turn the overlay off. With limited control on VG of overlays, I don't want to go through and turn off all but the floor on overlays as this is time consuming - unless maybe they could be done with a filter?

I did look to change the overlay linestyle to something that is invisible but could not see anything suitable?

has anyone found a solution or work around for this?

Note: I may just be being daft, I'm only a few months in to using revit!

This is a good idea to go vote on whilst you are here though! https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-ideas/visibility-graphics-overrides-for-underlays/idi-p/7601327

There is a Span Direction annotation command in the Ribbon (Annotate Tab, Symbol Panel)
