topic Parametric Annotation Family in Revit Structure Forum

Hi All,

I'm wondering how to create a Parametric Annotation Family that represents a line with length. I'm using a family to do this because here I can add more parameters to store information.

My issue is that I created an Annotation Symbol:

Then, I created a length parameter "Largo" so the user can manipulate the length of the line and it changes parametrically.

Here is the problem:

As I understand, the annotation symbol works for 1:1 scale, so the unity is depending on which scale the view is, so if I want to put it in a 1:75 scale view and I want the line's length to be for example 100, in the parameter I have to put 1.33333 (= 100/75).

I wonder how to achieve an annotation (or any other parametric object - the simpler, the best) so the end-user just put the length he desires without computing the correspondence.

Thanks in advance for any tip of advice.

Best regards!

Hello @Anonymous

Thank you for posting to the forum. Annotation elements are automatically scaled by the view scale as you mentioned. Can you describe what does this line family represent? Have you considered making this a generic model?

Hi @michael_coviello , thanks for your response.

I was trying to achieve an annotation that could represent the rebar length according to the future creation of the Rebar Element and also showing the area that will cover.

As you mentioned, I changed the approach to use a Generic Model, but finally I managed to create a mix of dimensions, filled regions and annotations to show what I wanted. Here is the representation of it:

I know that for Rebars there is an annotation symbol that does pretty much this, but I need this to be before I have the rebars created, so then, using this information, create the rebar layout.

Regards!

Hello @Anonymous

Thank you for helping me to understand your workflow. I'm glad to hear you've found a method to achieve the desired result. Annotation is controlled by the view scale.

I also wanted to mention Reinforcement Areas as an option. Is there a reason why this would not work? You could define the area and then the properties could be edited afterwards.

Area Reinforcement

There may be some workflows that help you get closer but I recommend you to visit the Revit Idea Station to let us know about this request.

I understand the frustration of not having the the ability to place a placeholder for rebar (annotation)

I urge you to mention the business impact that this missing functionality has as it can increase the chances of the functionality being integrated in the future.

You can also vote on ideas others have posted, so be sure to let us know if an idea you see there is important to you.
