topic Beam Column joins in Revit Structure Forum

How can I keep the top of a column connected to the end of a beam? Or keep 2 beams connected. E.g. a portal of two columns and two beams all connected to each other. I want to be able to rise/lower all connections, the top (two beams) and the column beam connections, and expect that the connecting elements all move up and down. Hop I am clear on this.

When you connect a beam to a column 3 new instance parameters are created in the beam for each end of the beam connected to a column. Start/End Attachment Type, Start/End Attachment Distance & Start/End of Attachment to Reference Column. Start/End Attachment Type defaults to End Elevation in this case the beam end is not "connected" to the top of column, i.e., if you change the top offset of the column the beam remains where it was. What you want to do is change Start/End Attachment Type to Distance, what this will do is maintain the the distance from top of column to top of beam as per the value in Start/End Attachment Distance. I've attached a couple of screen shots.

if the beams are connected to columns on top or bottom they will move with column height and location. to connect them select beam end drag near column tab though all connection option until you find one at the center of the column. join them. as for beam to beam connection use beam join tool from modify tab and press arrows to join them then click on the lock.
