Your best bet would be to apply a filter. It is good to start using them on smaller projects so you get the hang of it for when you ready to start setting up your view templates. Here is a link to some information on setting up filters. Do not worry about messing up your model. Just save before you start and if you make a mistake just hit the undo button.

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit-products/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2019/ENU/Revit-DocumentPresent/files/GUID-FA7B0AD9-4F0F-4405-9DF7-35D30D7CBE7B-htm.html

Worksets are great for larger projects with lots of team members. I tend to stay away from them if you are going to be the only one, or one of two people working on the project.

Good luck and have fun.

I have created two plan views for some preliminary drawings, I now need to go back and add girts to the walls.

Is there a way to add the girts to the model and be able to turn them off easily on the plan views? They will be structural framing, so I can't turn that off or beams because I will need to see the structural beams.

I know how I would do this in other programs but I am not sure how Revit works for this type of instance. So I am not sure the best way to control the girts so I can show/hide them easily. Remember I am new to Revit.

Yes. Turn Off Grids category via VG > Annotations > Grids. That does not affect anything else.

There are several ways, here are 2 straight forward one:

If the project is “workshared”, you could create a workset for the girts and turn off the workset in the views as necessary.

Alternatively you can use view filters and filter out the desired objects and turn the visibility off. You could single out the girt elements by adding a “filter” parameter to the structural framing category. Or you could duplicate the family, rename it, and filter using the family name.

Hope this gives you a start.

It is not Workshared, would that be the easiest for someone new? I need to learn about worksets anyway as we have received models with them but I do not how they are made, but I will look into it.

Worksharing a model is meant to be used when multiple people are expected to work in a single model stored in a central network location. While there is no restriction to having 1 person work on a workshared file, even locally stored (I do this all the time), for a beginner, I wouldn’t workshare a file simply for visibility.

The view filter with parameter strategy is valid with either single user or workshared.

Depends on the extent you want to filter. IF you want all the girts to not show up then you can set up a fairly basic filter. If you want specific ones to show and some not to, you may need to add information into the properties of the element. Maybe a slightly different name, or a name with a prefix, or something in the description. Just add something some where that you can add to the filter profile. Hopefully that makes more sense.

You all most have it, under filter rules, change assembly to Type Name.

Your angle column is not an assembly and you want to search by the type of column by name.
