Putting a filled region on a "layer" so it can be turned off in PDF

When you create a PDF from a CAD file, it retains the layer information so that you can turn certain layers off in the PDF.

Is there a way to use the same feature when you print PDFs from a Revit model? I want to put a hatch/filled region on a "layer" so that it can easily be turned off and on by the end user of the PDF.

The only way is to export to CAD first then print from CAD.

What I ended up doing is creating just the hatch in CAD, creating a PDF from that, and then doing "Add layer from page" in Bluebeam to the sheet I want the hatch to show up on. That way, the only item on a layer is the hatch created in CAD. Kind of a tedious workaround but it seems to do what I want it to do.
