Assemblies have identical data but have different tags

Hello!

I have a problem where an assembly of a HEA100 beam connected to a steel plate get different tags at two diferent locations. From all the values that I can see they are identical. The only thing that I have modified were a pair of bolts with voids (which were present in the original assembly (couldn't copy them)). These bolts still have the same face of the beam as the host and they are at the exact same position relative to the beam. The main difference between the two beams is that one is rotated 90 degrees but that shouldn't affect the assembly. Note that the bolts aren't a part of the asssemblies. Any tips or tricks to solve this mystery? Thanks in advance! Sadly I can't share any files to try to solve this...

Hi, @Anonymous, assemblies do not behave as families or groups. If you edit an existing instance of an assembly, it will be added as a new assembly type in the project browser (you can verify there if that happens when you make changes on a given assembly), even if you only change a couple of bolts. Therefore, its identity parameters will change in order to keep it different from the former assemblys existing in your model. A possible solution to this issue is to create a common assembly parameter for all type and instances of you want to tag as equal.

Thanks for the quick and well explained response! However the bolts aren't a part of the assembly, they're attached to a face of the assembly (on the original [1] and the copied one [2]). What I did was that I copied 1 and when I pasted it the bolts disappeared and I had to place new ones at exactly the same position. But a new assembly was still created.

You're welcome! From what explained, first you have to make bolts part of the assembly. Then copy and verfy that assemblies [1] and [2] are both instances of the same type (remember that when an assembly is edited it could generate a new type), you can do this looking at their name at object properties and at project browser. If not, try to match assemblies, the post explain how.
