Family pile walls parameters exact and approximate

Good afternoon, I have created a pile wall family and I would like to be able to choose between exact distance or approximate distance, I have created a Yes / No parameter but I can't find how to make it work.

Why do you want to show approximate measurement when you can show exact measurement every time? Or like the purpose of doing that? Maybe we can get an idea after

Do the following:

Create an instance Length parameter Sep_CTRL
give it a formula = If(Exact, Separation, Aprox_Sep)
the formula for the Array parameter would then use the parameter Sep_CTRL instead of Separation

Sometimes I need to distribute a number of piles between two points and at other times I need to distribute X number of piles separated by a distance between two points.

I do not understand, The parameter Set_CTRL has the formula = if (Exact, Separation, Aprox_Sep) and that parameter is integer, number, text or yes / no?

Never mind the previous reply...that will create a circular reference and wont work

Do the following:

Edit first array group and associate its visibility to Not Exact
Edit the second array group element and associate its visibility to Exact

When you load into the project you can use the Exact Yes/No to swap between Approx and Exact

An Alternative is to use nested components and Family<Type> Parameter

Should not be necessary as it requires more work and is really useful when you have more than 2 variations ... using the visibility parameters is more than sufficient to solve the problem; nonetheless, here is how the other method would work

Model Array Exact in a Family A <--- referred to as Child 1
Model Array Approx in a family B <--- referred to as Child 2
Nest both children into a Family C <--- referred to as the Parent
- Align and lock both children into place
- Associate the parameters of the children to parameters in the parent
- Label the Nested children with a Family <Type> parameter

When loaded into the project you would be swapping between the 2 using the drop down selection of the Family<Type>

With varying distances as you shown? Because I am seeing the same distance 1.8 on the callout, but the sketch looks like the distances are varying. I am just wondering if that is the intention or just an inaccuracy in the sketch.
