Rebars count by lenght in Schedule

Hi All,

In my project I want to count variable rebars's set these have a same number and length and group them in a single line in the schedule, as shown in the picture bellow

In my example bellow, I want put in schedule for rebars:

number 12: (by element =10 ; elements = 1; Total elements = 10)

number 13: (by element =10 ; elements = 1; Total elements = 10)

How can I do that?

What you want to do is use grouping (on the grouping and sorting tab of the schedule).

And if you want summation of the grouped elements, on the formatting tab you can set calculate totals for each of the fields you want to have summed up.

finally, I managed to group the variable rebars having the same length and the same number in a single line by unchecking Itemize every instance but I still have problem to calculate the total rebars count for each of them

see image bellow:

for exemple: N° 16 : Total count is: 6 x 4 =24 and that is correct

but for N° 17: count should be 1 x 15 = 15 not 225!!!???

how to solve that?

Decidedly it'll take me extra time to finish this schedule!! ‌‌

I don't understand how REVIT calculates the total count of rebars with variable lengths in the same set!!!... I noticed that REVIT uses a square function to calculate the count of these rebars and that is wrong!!

All counts of my rebars having variable lengths are false!! (see schedule bellow)

for example in the image bellow , the count of rebar N°17 should be 15 not 225!!! ( Note: L = 64.45m is the sum lengths of 15 rebars)

please check the portion of my attached file bellow to find a solution to my problem

I made some change in my parameters according your example, so check them please in images bellow and tell me if I'm correct....I still have some questions

01- Why I can't display set's sum variable lengths for N°17,18,19 and 20 as I mentioned in the schedule above??...should I add separate row for that and use a formula to calculate their sum? ...and then how can I group them with the others in the same row "rebars length"?

02- in addition why I can't display their weight??

03- I noticed that REVIT dont calculate different values correctly and this is due probably to the definition of the number of digits after the comma (I used 3 digits for all parameters)....for example:

N° 50: total length = 740 x 7.601 (should be equal to : 5624,740 m and REVIT give: 5624,600 m)

total weight = 5624,740 x 1.208 (should be equal to : 6794,686 kg and REVIT give: 6796,843 kg)

how to fix that?

-01 what parameter drives your rebar "length"? Is it defined by a segment "A" or any other letter?

When using a varying set u have 2 options:

in a group = all rebars same number but ranging from this height to that height

seperately = all rebars different number:

I do need to itemize every instance now else I get a "variable length" which is logical

yes, parameter that drive my rebar length is "A" , see example bellow:

I know that are two options to define position of variable rebars in the set, and for me I chosen to number them as a whole to avoid over numbering in the schedule.

What I wanted to say is that it is possible to calculate the average length of the variable bars in the set to display it in the schedule using for this purpose a bar parameter as you have quoted and which is the parameter "A" for example?

in short I want my schedule to be established as that of Autocad structural detailing (ASD), see the image below

What are you rebar length settings?

For rebars grouped as a hole but with the same rebar number I use the minimum and maximum totals:

This determines the range of the rebar lengths.

Right now as I see it your grouped rebars are scheduled as a hole (not itemized per unit) so Revit now tries to show one rebar for a different set of grouped rebars who all have a different "a" length parameter which causes your schedule to not show a length which is logical because they are all different.

See it from the contractors perspective: how is a contractor supposed to know the exact length of a group of rebars if he only has an average length? If you show him min. and max. length he knows the range needed. Then he has 2 options: make the same length rebar matching the maximum length needed and cutting off the rebars at site or evenly match out the rebars, but the latter would take too much time.
Try fix your rebars so they end up ungrouped. This should fix your BBS.

Count is a schedule field that counts the number of elements. You shouldn't use count for rebar as the bars inside a varying set are sub-elements.

For this you can use quantity which is equal to 1. If you want to show the entire quantity of bars in a varying or uniform set, you can use quantity by rebar set.

If you are numbering the varying set individually (each bar gets a rebar number), the regular sorting and grouping would work.

So you can add the following fields:

Rebar Number
Quantity
Bar Length

Then you need to:

Sort by Rebar Number
Uncheck itemize
Set quantity to Calculate totals
Set Bar Length to calculate totals
Add mass / m and compute the weight of each group of bars

I know that it is necessary to provide the contractors with the complete details of the reinforcement and precisely I will make a separate schedule for rebars with variable lengths in sets to indicate their details

When I talked about the average length of the variable rebars it’s just for a display aspect in the schedule...I don’t want to leave the fields empty that’s why I want that my schedule to be according to that of Autacad Structural Detailing (ASD)...too bad!!

As I said before it won’t be easy for me to finish this schedule!!!... I have another issue!!

In fact, as my tank is circular and my main reinforcement is radial, and precisely for the tank's dome I am obliged to interpose the positions of my sets's variable rebars to keep a minimum spacing between them and avoid their overlap in dome's head ...then for the example of the rebars N°64 I defined a spacing of (5cm) at the dome's head to obtain the necessary spacing of 2.00m at the base. to this end REVIT displays a spacing of 5cm in rebar's tag and schedule that must be 2.00m..the reason why I entered the real spacing wich is (2.00m) in the comment field under rebar's properties tab to be able to display it in rebars tag. see image bellow

my problem now I want to merge between spacing field and comment field in schedule to create a new field that displays my real spacing, so I thought of using a conditional statement formula and I entered the follwing formula syntax: IF(spacing<5cm, comments, spacing) ...but REVIT tell me there are incompatible units!!

any Idea to resolve this problem?

You can not mix a text parameter (Comments) and a Length parameter (Spacing) in one formula. Create another Length parameter for Rebars category, and use it in the formula instead of Comments.

Giving a spacing to a circular rebar setup doesn't make sense. Just setting up your plan with the dimensions would suffice in my opinion. We also never set spacing in a schedule (is that necessary?) I would just write a text with that rebar tag saying spacing = 2m at the ends and place the dimenions around your tank reinforcements.
A contractor will notice this and it will all be clear to him.
