Floor Duplex Annotation Doesn't Show Up

Hello!
I'm beginning to learn MEP modelling in revit and encountered some trivial issues.

I've modified family from Revit template (Load Family) and SaveAs to make a new family.

When I place it on Floor Plan, it shows up. But when I change it, it doesn't show up in Floor Plan View, either the model or annotation.

Changes that I've made to the family:

1. Change the Annotation's Tag.

Asscociate it with the family so I can change it in the project to make different Types.

2. Make an extrusion
The family doesn't have a model in the first place, so I've added it.

I may have a solution - if you are using Revit 2026 or 2027, please turn on the Accelerated Graphics preview - when I did this, the annotation symbols appeared correctly:

I am now just checking on your family, turns out it's a little bit different from what I'm going to do.

So to resume my problem based on your questions,

Q1 : Can you let me know what version of Revit you are using?

A1: I'm using 2026 student version of Revit

Q2: Can you provide the specific family name you are having an issue with?

A2: Family Name : "KSD Outlet Floor-Duplex". It's one of Electrical Fixtures category. I'll attach the family here

Q3: please turn on the Accelerated Graphics preview

A3: Yes it did! Thanks a lot. But still, we need to show also the text / label. When I turned on Accelarated Graphics Preview, their labels turned off 😆

But anyway, thank you! it gives me some real insights.

Altough I still have to find out a way to show annotation and label at the same time in the Floor Plan. 😁✌️

Your "Floor Outlet Annotation" family has a masking region inside it. The same size as the rectangle that shows around the outlet symbol.

If you delete that masking region, you shouldn't have any more trouble with the symbol showing up.

If you need the masking region for some reason, you could change your Power Plan view from "hidden Line" to "Wireframe", and you get about the same results.

Thank you so much, really appreciate it. Now the symbols show up with no problem.

It doesn't really need the masking region because the rectangle shape already shown in "KSD Outlet Floor-Duplex" family, so perhaps I'll just delete it.

Btw, @sragan what is the function of this masking region exactly?

Welcome to MEP modeling! Since you are working with a floor-mounted family, this disappearing act is almost always caused by one of two classic Revit quirks.

First, check your project's View Range settings. Because you added a physical 3D extrusion to the bottom of the family, the element might now sit entirely below your view's bottom clip plane or view depth. If the view can't "see" the 3D geometry, Revit won't render the nested 2D annotation symbol either. Try lowering your View Depth in the floor plan properties to see if it pops back up.

Second, open up the family editor and check the visibility/graphics overrides for that new extrusion you made. If the geometry is only set to show in "Fine" detail mode, but your project floor plan view is set to "coarse" or "medium," the family will completely hide itself. Make sure the extrusion is checked to be visible across all detail levels.

Did adjusting the view range fix it, or do we need to look closer at the family's symbolic lines?

A masking region is usually used to hide something. Maybe it was supposed to hide the 3D geometry of the floor outlet so the annotation symbol would show up cleanly.

I usually seem to have trouble getting masking regions to work the way I want them to.

The rectangle shape of the extrusion is only the proper size at one particular scale. The masking region was hiding it at other scales. The extrusion should probably be hidden in plan view since you have the generic annotation.

Here are three versions of your family on a floor that has a pattern. The original family masks the floor pattern but also the lines in the annotation family. The second is with the masking region deleted, which doesn't mask the floor pattern or the 3D extrusion. The third family uses 4 separate masking regions to recreate the symbol.
