How to Increase Selection Transparency in Revit?

How to Increase Selection Transparency in Revit?

Body:
I want to achieve increased transparency for selected elements in Revit (so they appear more see-through when selected). I’ve seen that in newer versions there is a “Selected Elements Transparency” slider in the Options → Graphics settings, but I cannot find this option in Revit 2021–2024.

Is this feature available in these versions, or is there any workaround to make selected elements more transparent?

Nice to meet you! I’m familiar with the semi-transparent option, but unfortunately, it doesn’t produce the result I’m aiming for.
Do you happen to know any alternative approaches that might work better?

No.

That's the only option which the software has.

In Revit.ini I can't see a line which controls this behaviour but if it is there it probably has only values of 0 or 1 (off or on).

Unless there is some sort of 3rd party add-on which can offer more control.

Or maybe you can hack the API to change a value but I have no idea where to start with that.

This example demonstrates the visibility level of the selected elements and the challenge in distinguishing them clearly.

Not sure what this screenshot is supposed to convey - are you saying that they are too transparent? If so why don't you just disable the "semi-transparent" option?

You can also alter the colour for selected objects.

I also find things to be much clearer when the background is white rather than black (also that's what it would be like on paper).

Choose a colour to your preference for selected objects:

Looks like you have chosen dark grey on a black background with semi-transparency? Maybe not the best option.

I don't prefer white because it's straining on the eyes and feels uncomfortable to me

There is - its the semi-transparent setting.

The default colour for the dark theme is a light blue/cyan which would stand out more than whatever you have chosen:

No trouble.

Bear in mind that the only purpose of these settings is so that when you select items in the view you can see which elements have been selected.

Use settings, particularly colour, which make those elements stand out from the crowd.

I tended to not use the default "blue" colour because I used similar colours for services systems, so I used a lighter blue than the default.

In revit 2026 How can I increase transparency of selected objects. In file>options I cant find the same tab as shown
