Hello everyone I am trying to see if there is a way to tag the elevation of a hosted element, besides just using text. I Know that this has been a problem since 2012 but I was wondering if anyone has come up with a solution in the last 3 or so years? Thanks

No what I am trying to accomplish is being able to tag a hosted fixture that does not have a parameter for its mounting height, because it is a hosted element,in a view not an elevation view. Right now I have to use text and if that fixture moves for any reason then the text height that I put in is now wrong, so I would like to try to find something that can work with the device so when it moves and the elevation changes so does the tag.

so here is a revit file that has a light fixture (wall mounted) on a wall. It has an elevation parameter for the height. I linked this into a new revit file (structural) and used the Spot Elevation command to get the elevation at various points. See images 1 and 2.

After moving the light fixture in the linked revit file, I opened the structural model and the elevation tags updated properly...see image 3

I think he wants the elevation tag to display in 'plan' view. We do the same thing for 'counter height and above' receptacles. A bit of text that says 48"AFF or 72"AFF, something like that where the 48 or 72 is the 'Elevation' value after the object has been inserted. I'd love an answer to this as well.

yes. Is that using a 'Fixture' tag or an elevation tag?

how did you 'snap' to that (in other words, what value did it read? Top, center, bottom, insertion point?)

Cheers,

Dustin

the solution is to create a shared parameter for the elevation parameter of the light fixture. Once done, create a custom light fixture tag with a label that uses the custom shared parameter you just made. After making the custom annotation, load it into your project and tag away.

this custom annotation is reporting the elevation parameter...I am not manually typing in the height.

the light fixture is a face based/hosted light fixture.

this method works regardless if the family is a hosted or non-hosted family.
