I'm trying to get our revision numbering to work as per our usual numbering system in AutoCAD, ie. P1, P2 etc. then T1, T2 etc. and finally C1, C2 etc.

P= Preliminary

T=Tender

C=Contract

This is a similar format many companies use in the UK.

We are using BDS 2016 but I can't seem to find a way to achieve this.

I'm sorry but there is no way to achieve that using the standard Revision numbering system from Revit.

You may need to create a shared parameter with a list of all the options P1, P2, T1, T2 etc and select from the list when revising a sheet.

If you are using Revit 2016 go in to the Sheet Issues/Revisions dialog box and under Numbering Options select Numeric

You will see options at the bottom to add either a Prefix or Suffix.

Although every time you change the prefix it will change for all the revisions.

The only other option of achieving someting like this is to use the Issued To column in the Sheet Issues/Revisions dialog box (if its not already being used)

Add issued to, to your schedule and remove revision number.

Hi, Martin,

I'm Judy, a Revit specialist, and I'll be glad to help you out with this question. In the 2016 version of Revit products, it's now possible to create an alphanumeric sequence of revisions, so you no longer need to use the Issued To and Issued By columns as a workaound.

Here's how:

1. In the Sheet Issues/Revisions dialog, click Alphanumeric under Numbering at the right.

2. Type in the revision sequence you want to use exactly as you described it (P1,P2,T1,T2,C1,C2 etc.) Note that once all the values are used, it will repeat again with doubled values, so you'll see P1P1 after C2, so just add more values to the sequence where and when they are needed. (You don't need a prefix or suffix in this case.)

3. Click OK.

4. In the Sheet Issues/Revisions dialog, set the numbering to Alphanumberic, and click Add. Revisions will be created in the order in which you listed them in the previous step. See the image below.

Hope this answers your question! If so, please click the "Accept as Solution" button. This helps everyone find answers more quickly!

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Cheers,

Judy Staicer

Thanks for the reply Judy. I had used it this way but unfortunately the numbering will just follow the sequence of what I add to the sequence box. There is no telling how many issues I will require under each phase. So there may be a P1, a P2 and then just a single issue at T1 before a C1 issue, if you follow. What I could do with is a drop down box with just the alphanumerics that are predefined by myself.

Hi, Martin,

Sorry if I wasn't clear- you can put these revisions into any order you want, and you can add to the list as you need to. They don't have to be organized in strict groupings as I showed before. You can also use the Move Up and Move Down buttons to change the sequence.

Is this helpful? If the available functionality still doesn't meet your needs adequately and you feel the drop-down list would work better, I'd encourage you to post your ideas on the Product Feedback page which goes right to the developers.

I hadn't realised that the revision number changes for every sheet. That is no good at all. As has been said, just because one sheet is revised doesn't mean all sheets will be revised. So actually I don't accept this as a solution either.

Hello,

Using this settings:

And then placing revision clouds in the views you can get the following

I don´t know if this is not good enough. It is possible to set all sheets to show all revisions.

My extremely sarcastic and emotional reply was getting very long-winded so I'll just say 'No, it isn't easier'.

My last big Revit project had 119 A0 sheets and 99 revisions.

My last big Acad MEP project had 430 sheets and was a piece of cake to publish from.

Publishing in Revit is always a nightmare of frustration, hacks and endless stupid dragging-and-dropping. It wasn't designed to deal with more than a dozen or so drawings. It scales badly, as does Plotting with it's piddly little fixed-size dialog boxes. Wah!!!

Hum, I see. Seems like Revit isn't very international. Luckily for us Canadians, our standards are pretty much the same as in the US.

The ROTW has been keenly aware of this for a long time. Autodesk thinks we all LOVE feet'n'inches, month-day-year dating and bad spelling!

Hi Judy,

Has this issue been resolved yet, i'm having a similar problem in that one drawing may be revised as: P1, P2, T1, T2, C1... Whilst another may be P1, T1, C1....and other P1, T1, T2, T2, C1, issues can happen per drawing as opposed to per project so all drawings aren't issued at the same time, with the same revisions. Although your proposal would help some users, it doesn't really go with the way myself and many others work
