I frequently do site layout drawings for clients. For this I import an Autocad survey map which is a 2D file of all roads, fields and structures. To position it I use Link Cad in "Project North" view, I position the Autocad map to aligh with the building Iam modelling, then I "Acquire Coordinates" and change to True North.

At this point I have a correct site layout map which is aligned with the compass. - East to West is parallel to the X axis.

The problem arises when I save and re-open the file - then I find that the map has moved, and even if I run through the same workflow as above, I can't get the map to line up horizontally as before. This is a major problem for me.

I used to have similar issue until I started creating a Civil Central model. I Link the CAD and acquire coordinates in there. Then I Link the Civil Central model into my project models and Acquire coordinates.

Can you explain how to make the Civil Central model?

No on else was working on the file so it couldn't have changed.

Hello,

If the coordinate reference position is too far away from Revit's origin, you will see the DWG lines shift every time you zoom in or out.

This is a known issue due to the distance of the elements that Revit can handle.

basically, you make a new Central model and link the Civil file in and acquire coordinates. Then link the Civil central into your Discipline model and acquire coordinated from the Civil Central.

Here are a couple handouts I have for my staff. They are written from the standpoint of "our template", but you should be able to figure it out. It may not work for everyone, but since we have been using this method, we have had a lot less Civil coordination issue. There was also Class at AU a couple years ago I have referred people to, but I looked for it but couldn't find it this time 😕.

UPDATE....

Found the AU Link.... https://www.autodesk.com/autodesk-university/class/Civil-3D-integration-within-Revit-2022
