Light Switch ID

I am having a hard time understanding how a light switch ID can be used to associated it to the light fixtures in controls. Did a lot of searching for videos but none of them showed me what I needed. Cam someone give me a primer?

Hello,

What you see here is a Dutch example of a room with 6 lighting fixtures and two Lighting Devices near the door.

(This is the way we have to present the Lighting Fixture and Lighting Device in The Netherlands.)

If you create a Lighting Fixture family and load it into your project it automatically gets the Switch ID parameter.

It is grayed out so you can't edit it manually.

When you create a Lighting Device family you have to set the Part Type to ‘Switch’ in your Family Category and Parameter dialog box.

When you load this into your project it also gets the Switch ID parameter.

Now your set to connect the Lighting Device to the Lighting Fixtures.

In the Video below you will see that I add a Switch ID to the Lighting Devices first and then create a Switch system.

Then I add more Lighting Fixtures to the Switch system.

Watch the question marks in the tag families that I placed on the Lighting Fixtures and Lighting Devices.

They will change based on the actions I do withe the family or the Switch System.

Ok. If click on a light fixture family I see that the "Switch ID" is grayed out. So since this Light Fixture Family is already created family, do I have to Edit Family to activate the Switch ID? Kind of confused when you said "When you create a Lighting Device Family" rather than create a Light Fixture Family in the second part of your explanation. I am assuming that is the switch you are talking about. I already have a switch created with a part type of "Switch".

In other words if I already have a switch family it should be set properly. If I already have a Light Fixture Family that I want to use and associated with the switch when I create a switch system, I have to Edit that Light Fixture Family so it has the Switch ID parameter as part of that family.

Sorry about my confusion but this is all new to me.

Ok, you don’t have to edit the family if you see the parameter Switch ID in both the Lighting Fixtures and Lighting Devices.

It was for me to teach you how switch systems work and what the requirement in the families are.

Do the following:

Select the Lighting Devices and gif de parameter Switch ID a value of your choice.
Select one of more Lighting Fixtures and click on the Switch Icon in the Ribbon.

Click ‘Select Switch’ and select your Lighting Devices.

Select one of the Lighting Fixtures you added to the Switch system and check what the value is of the parameter Switch ID.

If you did this right you should see your Switch ID value and created a Switch system.

I went into a plan for which I already circuited some light fixtures and created switch systems. I noticed that when I click on the light fixtures for which I created the switch system that those fixtures show the switch ID of the switch to which they are connected in the grayed out Switch ID parameter. However the Switch ID tag does not show up on the light fixtures?

My Light Fixture Tag Family only has "Type Mark" listed. Do I add "Switch ID"?

You have answered the basic questions for me. I edited by Light Fixture Tag Family label to add "Switch ID" and it worked. So is there a way to make the Fixture Type Mark and Switch ID come in so there not tied to each other so you can move them around separately?

IT is not posible to move two parameters in one tag family around.

You can can create two types in your tag family by using the visibility parameter.

add a visibility parameter to each parameter.

Or make two tag families.
