I have read several threads on how to change the line type for circuit wiring. My understanding is that you select a circuit wire, do an edit type, duplicate, then change parameters for you new wire type. When I do an edit type I do not see parameters for changing the line weight, line type or color. IS there another step to see these parameters and change them?

Get me past that hurdle then I do not understand how to assign the new wire type to a given circuit. I read some instructions about filtering but how do you filter for a given circuit. Seem like all wiring would go the new wire type. I would appreciate if somebody to clear this up for me.

To change the linetype for the wire,

go to the manage ribbon,

on the mange ribbon select the object styles.

Under wires, choose the lineweight, line style, and colour you desire.

Hope this helps

Use filters. We add keywords to the Description parameter of the wire type (IE Emergency, Underfloor, etc.)

Hi @Anonymous,

By far the easiest way for me is by adding filters to different wire types, then applying those filters to view templates:

Firstly, go to Systems >> Electrical >> Wire >> Then "Edit Type" in you Properties Pallet.

This will open the Type Properties as seen below, I simply duplicated my PVCC Wire and named it PVCC - RED DASHED for this example.

Either add a Keynote or Description to the Duplicated Wire, I named both RED DASHED for this example. Click "OK" when you're done.

Next, go to VIEW >> Graphics >> Filters, then create a New Filter, I named my Filter RED DASHED for this example and we are

going to define rules. Then click "OK".

Next, I filtered my category list to electrical, and only checked WIRES, the filter rules can now either be set up by the description or keynote which we added to the duplicated wire. Filter by >> Description >> equals >> RED DASHED. Then click "OK".

Next, go to your plan view and type in VG or VV to open your Visibility Graphics, or open your VG in your View Template.

Then add the newly created filter as shown below, I changed the Line Graphics for the filter as shown below.

(I actually changed the Pattern to Hidden 0.75 after taking this screenshot)

This will leave you with a result like shown below, the black circuit wire is the normal PVCC wire type and the RED DASHED wire is our newly created wire. These steps can then be duplicated or altered for new/all wires as desired.

This might feel like quite a few steps, but you can transfer these project standards and for me/our firm, this works the best.

I hope this helps!

So, when I am wiring a circuit and want it to use the new Emergency wire type, I need to apply the filter so it uses that type? For normal wire type I change the filter?

Hi @Anonymous,

That is correct, you can simply wire it by making sure that the Wire Type is set to the new "Emergency Wire" (PVCC - RED DASHED as per my example) - is setup and that the filter is applied to the VG.

Typically, you could even wire everything as per normal, then select all the wires which you would specifically like to change so that it falls under the "Emergency Wire" Type.

You do not need to assign a filter to the normal wire type (PVCC in my example). What I normally do is that I assign a keynote or description to my normal wire/PVCC, this helps with scheduling and when I want to retrieve cable lengths for different wire types. (Basically helps with the schedule sorting...)

Long story short, you can duplicate and create as many wire types as you wish, then assign a description/keynote to each wire type(even the normal wire type), then assign a filter with defined rules, then assign the filters to the desired views or view templates.

I hope this helps
