Yes, I experienced the same thing when upgrading from Revit 2017 to 2018. However, the Revit template errors are just a few among the many glitches and setbacks associated with the upgrade to the 2018 Revit version. For instance, I was unable to open Revit projects from 2017, some that did open, were missing content like textures and some tools among other things. Additionally, I had the Revit IT team use remote access to my computer and they couldn't solve the issue. They reinstalled the software and several other measures that turned out to be unsuccessful. I am still wafting to hear back from someone about this issue. Looks like I will be forced to revert back to the 2017 of version of Revit that worked perfectly fine. It appears Revit 2018 is not ready for market use at this time.

Peter

Hi All,

I have recently installed Revit 2018 and first thing that I tried to do is to upgrade my Revit template from 2016 to 2018 version (I skipped 2017).

When I try to open my 2016 template Revit normally starts upgrade process and when Revit comes to 100% it just shows welcome screen and doesn't want to update my template.

Does someone know what could be the reason? Is that bug in Revit 2018, or?

Best regards, Branimir

Hi Branimir,

Thank you for taking your time to post this on the forum,

I would be interested in taking a look at your template, and also have you tried running it through 2016?

Generally I would recommend that you never skip releases when upgrading - because of all the differences it has to process.

Let me know if you can share it, you can send a link through a direct message here on the forum,

Best Regards,

another option outside of upgrading from 1 version to another version.

open a generic template in the latest (2018) version and transfer all your custom pieces from your working template into the new temaplate.

this might help identify where the problem is during the upgrade.

Hi!

No nothing at all. Revit just stops upgrade process and shows welcome screen.

I did the same - skipped 2017 and direct from 2016 to 2018 - I never had this problem so something corrupt must be in your template - however I do have a problem with adobe and pdf's - come on autodesk - you knew about this problem in 2016 - plus editing project information text in title blocks - seems as though pumping out new versions every year is a good way to make money - but the money is not spent on development - just filling the top boss pockets . . .

I would be very cautious when upgrading to a new version before its first service pack has been released.

If upgrading is a necessity, always do it sequentially

Autodesk is releasing versions prior to their completion to use the masses as a test environment.

Revit 2017 is still unstable at this point

Revit 2016 seems to have settled a bit

Revit 2015 has up to 14 updates
