I am working on a drainage model about 180mb and every time I try to draw a pipe by selecting the draw pipe tool it thinks for about 5secs the does it again when I actually draw the pipe?

Read a post about too many pipe systems slowing a model something to do with calcs meh....

Does anybody have a solution to speed my model ?

Hello,

Try to stop the pipe systems calculations, enter each pipe system and change calculation to performance, if you are using worksets, try to unload the unused ones, or try to turn them off in your working view.

Hello Todd,

Unfortunately no further ideas so far.

You can evaluate your hardware, here you can find some benchmark tests, the simplified one is ok, standard may take one hour or less depending on your hardware.

Usually I consider below 150 ok, but your model is about double of what we usually have to work with... Maybe 100?

It appears that calculations is not the problem. There are many things that can cause poor performance.

You mention a lot of systems. Why is that?

Do you have a lot of systems that really should be one system or are there just a lot of different types?

Are all the systems properly constructed in regards to flow direction and properly closed?

Not sure I did not originally model them its pretty messed up with systems.
How do I go about fixing them you mention closing them out? I am a mech
normally Hydro is new for me

Hello,

In our plumbing project, we have sanitary, wastewater, cold water, hot water, gas, drainage, fire protection, we have each of them in a separate workset, except cold and hot water that are kept together, then you can unload worksets reducing the memory use.

All of them making calculations, so we turn all of them off.

The larger the system, longer it takes to recalculate.

Hello,

In the project browser, expand families, then expand piping systems, then piping system, right click any system and select type properties.

Then change calculations to performance, it is better to do this in all systems.

Hello Todd,

If you model is 180mb, splitting it, or, if you use worksets, unload some worksets will help.

When our models get over 80mb it starts to slow down the model handling, but of course it depends on the hardware.
