"Exchange" parameters in families (Diroots/Dynamo/Plugin)

Hi,

I have a project in which I need to change Project/Shared parameters to multiple families. For instance, change the length parameter inside the family:
Change TK_Height
to CMG_Height

And if the TK_Height = 100cm
will the CMG_Height will also change to 100cm?

Is that possible? I am looking for automation to do so in a batch (Diroots/Dynamo/Plugin)

If its a Project parameter you can just rename it in the project. It will be associated to categories rather than specific families.

For shared parameters in families, you can do it using DiRoots paramanager on the Families tab and using the Modify button.

It should leave values unchanged as far as I know.

EDIT: that didn't work the way that I thought it would but I'm sure there is a way of doing it because I did a similar exercise a while ago to add a company prefix to existing parameters - I'll need to look into that more, unless someone else has a quicker answer.

Edit re shared parameters, this post seems to be saying that it is not possible to rename them in a project, although at the very end of the post someone says they have developed a commercial app which will do that.

My memory must be playing tricks because I was sure that I had done this before but I must be getting confused. Maybe it was just the family names which I prefixed in that other project rather than the parameters.

Open the family and add the new parameter, in the RHS column of the Types interface set the value of the new parameter to"=<old_parameter_name>" and they will thereafter have the same value.

I use a macro I wrote for doing this. I have a couple of different ones - one that loads our typical shared parameters into light fixture families, one that updates some older parameters we used to have (by creating new parameters, copying the value, and then deleting the old parameters), and one that just deletes parameters.

But it would probably take too long for you to decipher the code and figure out how to make it do what you want.

For shared parameters, the name isn't that important, it's the GUID number that Revit looks for. So I am adventurous enough to edit the shared parameters file. I just make sure I have backups, and I don't change the formatting. And I don't change the GUID numbers unless I want to create a completely new parameter.
