hosted return grille

When i am trying to place some return grills on the ceiling they are trying to mount perpendicular to the ceiling instead of parallel. any ideas as to why this would happen.

Are they face based family? You may pick the wrong face when you place the grille. Make sure you select the ceiling. If all else fail, share the family here.

Most likely you have "Place On Vertical Face" selected but there can be many reasons for this.

i dont know how to attach just the family, im sorry. but the name is return grille with trim ceiling mounted. and how do i tell whether it is a face based object?

I've noticed that you are asking a lot of basic questions. Have you considered taking a class?

How about doing some research of your own? You tube is loaded with the answers to your questions.

well i took a revit basics class but it was very basic and i did an online one but it also didnt get into these things. i try to google stuff but i never know exactly how to type it to get to the answer im trying to find but i can dig a little deeper on things rather than go here.

Bone up on your terminology. You need to use the right words in order to get good search results. There is a ton of free info to be had.

Also, have a look at Lynda.com. It is loaded with good information, not just Revit. Your employer may even pay for it if you find it useful. You can even try it free for a week with credit card information.

Click on the family and Edit Family from the Ribbon. Then save it as a RFA file somewhere and upload it here.

Click on the return grille, then click on "Edit Family" in the "Modify | Air Terminals" ribbon that just appeared. Is there anything listed in the "Host" property on the left side of the window? If so, what does it say?
