Hey guys,

The sheet metal contractor for this project wants the bottom-of-duct elevations for all the ductwork. I'm using Spot Elevation marks to tag these.

My question is: instead of it just saying "11'-6"" can I add a prefix or suffix that says B.O.D.?

In the Type Properties, I see that you can add a prefix/suffix for alternate units... but then it reads "B.O.D. 12'" or whatever you set the alternate units to.

For whatever reason, I don't seem to be able to edit the family. That seems like it would be the best way to do it.

Anybody familiar with the Spot Elevation family, and how to edit it??

I'm also hoping to eliminate the little "crosshairs" symbol so that it simply reads "11'-6" B.O.D."

Below is an example of what I have so far. Again, I want to eliminate the '12' that appears after the 'B.O.D.' and eliminate the crosshairs symbol.

Maybe I could just make a duplicate of the Spot Elevation family??

Thanks,

Kempton

Ok, so as far as adding "B.O.D." that was as simple as filling in the "Bottom Indicator" area.

I've seen other threads about making custom Spot Elevation marks, but I'm not that familiar with duplicating/modifying families. If anyone could shed some light I would appreciate it.

Adding a prefix to the family is not as easy as it sounds like. You need to create a generic annotation family with a label and nest it in the spot symbol family. Even if you could do that, you would most likely hate the result when you used it in project because the prefix is static, but the spot elevation label is dynamic.

Will the elevation indicator solve the problem

This worked for what I was trying to accomplish. I was annotating UG plumbing elevations and I needed to add "EL = " as a prefix to the number.

Thanks!
