Why aren't my copy/monitored grids showing up?

I have created a new electrical model for the project I am on.

I linked in the architectural model and then (after getting my levels set in elevations), proceeded to open a floor plan in Shared Levels and Grids and Copy/Monitor the architect's established grid lines.

This is a process I have done many times on numerous projects and rarely with trouble.

This time, however, my copy/monitored grids are not showing. At first I thought I might not have actually copy/monitored them, so I attempted to do the process again only to receive a warning that I'd already copy/monitored the elements.

I visited this troubleshooting page: Revit - grids missing in views

I went through all of the suggested solutions, including removing the linked model and essentially starting over, to no avail.

Help?

You can tried to put your Discipline in coordination mode and put the phase filter none and think you will see you elements another cuestion is maybe you do not have visible your grids and then you need to change your visibility graphics and turn on your grids.

Do you use Filters to manage grid visibility? Assuming you use worksets you might have the Active Workset assigned to one that is not Open or turned off in the view(s) you're looking at. Are the views that you're referring to positioned so the would see the extents of the grids? When you first link their model do you see their grids in other views too?

I've double-checked the extents to ensure that they are positioned to see the grids. I've also reviewed the Work sets to make sure that A) I was working in Shared Levels and Grids and B) that SL&G was turned on.

However, your last question gave me pause. The grids that I am seeking do not appear in all of the views coming from the linked model. Could this be the issue? How can it be resolved?

Draw a temporary grid, select it, right click and select all in project, then another right click and maximize 3d extent. Delete the temporary grid.

If the position of the linked file is not within the scope of the elevation views for example then those views won't see them. If you're referring to not seeing them in plan views the 3D position of the grids in section/elevation influences whether they are visible in plan/ceiling views. For example a four story building that has grids that don't cross over the fourth level won't show grids in the fourth floor views.

What @ToanDN replied should help reconcile their extent, assuming you've finished the copy/monitor process.

Also, during the Copy/Monitor process I've seen people click big Finish on the ribbon during multiple selection instead of the small Finish button on the Options bar. During multiple selection (Options Bar check box) it is necessary to use the small Finish button on the Options Bar to complete the selection process and then the big Finish button on the ribbon.

Here is the insanity loop I am currently in:

1) Remove the linked ARCH model to eliminate all copy/monitoring

2) Re-link ARCH model

3) Confirm elevations

4) Open first floor plan. Here is what I see:

the red circle denotes the building in question. note: there are no grid lines shown in this view

5) Open VG and set Revit Links to "Linked View: 000_CORD_L1" (which is the view created by the architect specifically for Copy/Monitor Coordination.) Here is what I see:

now the grid lines show for the building, and the erroneous lines to the left are now gone

6) Double-Check to ensure that I am in the Shared Levels & Grids Workset.

7) Copy/Monitor the Grids

8) Turn off grids in the linked ARCH model

9) Copy/Monitored Grids do not show. (Double-check grids are turned on in VG, they are)

10) Turn ON grids in the linked ARCH model

11) Attempt to Copy/Monitor again. Here is was I see:

12) Draw temporary grid. Select it, then all instances in project. Only the temporary grid is selected. The other grids (And whatever copy/monitored grids exist) are not. Select maximize 3D. Only the temp grid is maximized. This is unhelpful. Delete temp grid.

13) go into ARCH model in a separate instance of Revit. Attempt to maximize those grids. This is what I see:

In summation, I am totally stumped and COMPLETELY frustrated.

create a grid schedule and select all rows, highlight in model, the do the maximize 3d extent steps.

did you click the first Finish button to complete the selection, and second Finish button to complete the Copy/monitor process as @SteveKStafford has suggested. this is often overlook.

You shouldn't need to use By Linked View to see their grids. They should just be visible in a view that has Grids checked in V/G. Where is your building versus theirs in a section view? It might be that your model is not at the same elevation as theirs.

How are you turning off the grids in their model? V/G...override link (custom) > Model Categories (custom)?

I think that may be it! I opened a section view and this is what I found:

The arrow indicates the first floor, the red outline indicates the rest of the vertical footprint of the building.

I will admit to being completely brain-fried at this point. What is the (I'm sure obvious and easy) solution here? Provide steps if you can. Thank you!

The first step is to match levels in my model against theirs. I start in a section or elevation. Once levels match, I make any views I’ll need to work in and then I deal with grids.

That is literally the first thing I did when I brought the linked model in. Hence my persistent confusion and frustration

Dear andyb,

First of all, we need to make sure that the grids are visible so try to draw a grid if it is shown then the problem might be from the copy /monitor grids. Then try to make a trial file project with just some grids and try to copy/monitor the grids if this works then maybe the architectural file contains a problem so we need to check it there. If the copy/monitor on a trial file didn't work then you need to check the host file. Also, try to change the grids type from the architectural(Linked Model).

Please let u know your results for this proposal.

make a section view which cross the grids you want to see, it properly the grids that you are copied are not crossing the LEVEL you are working on, just drag all grids down/up to cross the level, then go to plan view it shall show. do the same practice to another direction, it shall solve the issue. hopefully it help you resolve the issue.

What workset did you copy/monitor the grids? is it visible in your view?

also make sure the grids touching the level where you want to see it or better yet copy monitor the levels and grids first in elevation view and create a floor plan from the copied levels then do copy monitor the rest of the grids.

go to section view to see if you GRIDS are crossing the Level reference.
