Duct Takeoff Position

Hi there,

I'm transitioning from AutoCAD to Revit, and i'd like to know how to control duct takeoff position.

I was trying to do some flex duct branches but the result was awful, as it is shown in the image below.

I wanted it to takeoff from the side of the duct but this was kept happening.

How do i determine the position of the takeoff? Bottom, top or side?

In round ducts, can I also angle the takeoff position, like 45 degrees?

Which side of a duct you will connect a flex duct depends on the offset while sketching a flex duct. So, to connect flex duct to the side of the duct you need to setup the same offset of the flex pipe as the duct is. But in my opinion it is better to place tees and after that to sketch flex duct between tee and air terminal.

Sure, in round ducts you are able to rotate a tee to the desired position. It can be achieved in some ways:

Manually for each tee - open section view, select the tee and Rotate to the desired position. But what can I recommend you is to create another one family for 45 degrees, so you will be able to insert a tee already rotated. It is quite simple to create such family, just open your tee family, rotate connectors on main ends of the tee to 45 degrees, save the family with different name and load into the project.

The systems that I draw have a maximum flex duct length so I normally have a length hard duct coming off of the main. I then draw the flex from the hard duct to the air terminal. Flex duct is inherently hard to work with so you might want to consider using a similar approach.
