Electrical panel schedules from linked model.

Situation:

We have some very large electrical projects and they demand a lot of computer resources. The only solution I could come up with is to separate the engineering and coordination electrical models. This would put all panels and devices in one Revit model, and all conduit/fittings in another. The first is used to create permit drawings, the second to make shop drawings. Ideally we would like a copy of the panel schedules on the shop drawings that have those circuits on them.

Questions:

Is there a way to place a panel schedule from a linked model onto a sheet of the hosted model?

and/or

Is there a way to use the API to access the linked mode's "ElectricalSystem" or "FamilyInstance" from the host model?

That's a tough one. I don't think you can directly do that, but hopefully, someone may be able to chime in with more definitive information.

That being said, one way I could think of tackling this is:

Transfer project standards from the linked project.
Copy/Monitor the panels from the linked project.
Create panel schedules using the template you transferred from the linked projects.

One thing that may come up is, as you mentioned below, the electrical systems may not transfer into the hosted project from the linked project, but I've never actually tried this so I don't know for certain.

I too was trying to find a way to do something similar... I struck out and ended up exporting my panel schedule sheet to a .dwg and then linking that sheet into my Revit project. It seemed dirty to me but time was a factor. I am curious if there is a better way to achieve this.

Just wanted to update you, I test my method above. Electrical systems DO NOT transfer into hosted projects.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it looks like this is impossible.

So it seams what I was is currently impossible. This is not acceptable, and this is also why we have workarounds.

My best work around was found by reading other peoples issues and solutions, in the form of "to schedule linked model object, click the check box to 'Include elements in links'" wow can that get messy if you are not very specific. Thankfully AutoDesk included a way to specify the Revit file form the available fields.

The workaround:

Create a Circuit Schedule. Select only the elements from the linked file. Sort by the Panel Name > Circuit Number. This will list all the circuits in the entire linked file. From here I copied the schedule and made one for each panel.

Note: if you want it on multiple sheets you need to make multiple copies, Revit does this in the background for Panel Schedules and most of us never see that happening.
