Simple Linear Dimenstion

I drafted ordinary duct peace and am trying to draw simple linear dimension between duct center and finished floor.

Not only that I cannot turn linear dimension to vertical mode (it offers me only horizontal movement toward second reference point), but I also cannot snap reference point to anything on linked model.

It is frustrating how Revit does not offer apparent solution to such extremely simple tasks...

Did you try an aligned dimension?

I tried it now, and it offers me nothing, cannot snap to absolutely anything else in the view over duct centerline. No command for snap override on right-click menu.

I am able to draw dimension between two elements of duct system, duct piece and air diffuser, so the problem turns to be inability to snap to anything on linked model.

The funny thing is that such problem doesn't exist with temporary dimensions - with them, I can snap absolutely anywhere within linked model, and on duct, I can snap to few points - but not to duct center!

It's possible. Maybe your duct is not parallel to what you are trying to dimension to.

There are no any indications of unparalleled condition, few simple duct pieces are drafted.

Moreover, they can snap to levels, which are in host model, and between each other. The problem seems to be inability to snap to anything on linked model.

It is possible to dimension to linked objects. Maybe you can share what exactly you are trying to dimension to in the linked model instead of being so general. Maybe you could even share a portion of the model that you are struggling with.

I opened this post as it was clearly not possible to me to do that. How can it help if you saying that it's possible?

The first post is very specific: I cannot snap to finished floor. After more investigation I found that I cannot snap to anything in the linked model: walls, furniture faces, anything. I hover around objects in linked model and cannot snap dimension reference to any.

Ok, after new attempt with aligned dimension, now lines in linked model appear to be selectable.

I can only explain that with possibility that I unconsciously clicked "select link" lock, though I cannot verify that.

I stated that it is possible to snap to objects in a linked model because it is. I am also able to dimension to floors. The upper dimension in the screen shot is to a floor in a linked model. I cannot offer you anything else without more information or an example from you.
