topic Combining phases with new construction and demo in Revit MEP Forum

Hi all, I tried looking for an answer to this but couldn't find one.

Esentially we've been working with an architectural model that more or less had an Existing, Demo, and New phasing. However, the architect has now split that up into Existing, and Phase 1, 2, 3, and 4, New.

They have different portions of the building demolished and built/renovated during different phases. I'm trying to figure out how to combine these phases (if possible?) so that I can somehow see all that was demolished in one drawing, and all that was renovated in one drawing.

Is this possible? I tried just combing all the 4 phases, and leaving existing and New alone, but when trying to play with the demo drawing phases/phase filters it doesn't seem to work. I'm thinking it's because there's new construction happening in each of the phases.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Thank you for the link. It gives some insight into how deal with the different phases, but I'm trying to view all the demolition and existing (before any phases) together, while not showing any of the new construction in any of the phases.

The issue is that because there are multiple phases, when I try to show existing and demo in, for example, phase 2, Phase 1 will show up because it is not technically 'existing'. I've tried different ways of combining but I'll always have either the new or demo not show up properly.

I do think the answer should be simple, but unfortunately I can't seem to get at it.

Have you already created the phases (1,2,3...etc) in your model and mapped your phases to the architects phases?

What you would like to do is not possible in Revit using the standard approach to Revit phasing. Depending on the complexity of the project you can stack multiple views on top of each other on a sheet and create a view that appears to combine phases.

Dmiller, that's what I was afraid of. Thought perhaps there is a way to do it through some fancy phase filters/combining phases that I'm not aware of. My last attempt was to overlay, but issue is that much of the demo devices have already been laid out, so will be a bit tricky.

@Anonymous wrote:

The answer is not simple, sorry.

Scenario 1: If the phase areas do not overlap then you could place several views with different phases on sheet

Scenario 2: If the phase areas overlap, you cannot use phase filter. You need to use view filters to override graphics for demolished elements among different phases:

- create a working view, go through each phase, change phase filter to show demo only, select all and enter Demo in the Comments field, if the field is already utilized for something else, then you need to create a new project parameter to enter this information

- open your view, change the view phase to the last new construction phase, phase filter = show all, create a view filter for all model categories and use Comments (or the new parameter) = Demo and add it to the view, override graphics of the filter to match demolition graphic.
