Good day everyone,

I got stuck upon loading my family into a drafting view.

After some googling, i couldn't get any further.

Apparantly to place a family on a drafting view, it needs to only consist out of lines and/or detail items, right?

Right, so I created lines and some Generic Annotations that are linked to parameters. Yet upon loading the family onto a Drafting view it gives the message as shown in the title..

Any idea what i did wrong in my family that it won't load? Yet other families, from Cadac TheModus Plugin which also have lines/detail items and Generic annotations load just fine..

Hopefully i can get some help here..

Attached, my family.

Hi, m-de-lange,

I'm Judy from Revit Technical Support. I see you're having trouble placing your annotation family in a drafting view. Thanks for posting the family. I had a look at it, and the problem is that the host family is a Generic Model family, which is a 3D family, even though you don't have any 3D elements in the family. Only 2D elements can be placed on a drafting view, which is like a sheet of paper. My suggestion would be to start over with a Generic Annotation family (which is a 2D family) as the host family, and load all those nested families into it.

Better yet, you can create all those labels directly in the top-level family; this will keep the family "lighter" and easier to manage. You can put lines, labels, etc. directly in the host family. It's not necessary to use nested families to create the kind of family you are making.

Let me know if this helps!

I agree with Judy points.

I don’t understand what purpose you going to meet doing this way, if you relay you want to do same you can do it on Legend therein you can drag drop your items from drafting view.

Sorry for the late response.

Your solution is correct however, i figured it out just before your answer.

I started a new detail item line based family and it worked right away after loading that into the project.

@BiMBoXiT The family was not for me, i created it for a colleague. They needed to put the family on a drafting view.

Thank you anyway!

Hi, @Anonymous,

If you're trying to drag the family into a 2D view, such as your title page or a drafting view, you'll get that error as you can't put a 3D item on a 2D view. Try dragging the family into a floor plan view. Does this help? Also, generally the furniture template would be more appropriate for a desk than the casework template, but without more information, I don't think that's likely to be the cause of the issue.
