BIM Interoperability tool: Parameter Mapping Blank

Hello,

I'm using the BIM interoperability tool and I'm having an issue exporting manufacturer and model data. As required by the client we can not have manufacturer or model data export to the spreadsheet. But we use these parameters to in our schedules, so I can't simply delete that data from the family properties. Is there a way to set COBie to export the COBie.Type.Manufacturer parameter as blank?

you should be able to just blank out the name in the Parameter Mappings.

then under the Update option, select Skip For All. then select Pick All for only pick Manufacturer and ModelNumber. this should update the COBie schedules accordingly.

interesting.... that is probably because the schedules have already been created with that information. i was able to run it with the equipment information and leave them blank in the schedule, but once included, it would not remove the information.

depending on how adventurous your feeling....

if you delete the COBie schedules (this will not remove the information) and let the interoperability tools recreate the COBie schedule, the spreadsheet should be remade without the information.

Changing the Parameter Mapping to "blank" would definitely generate the error you have. The COBie Extension would essentially be looking for a parameter with the name "" and that most likely doesn't exist.

Do you need an actual empty field or can you provide the default exported "n/a" to the owner?

when I set the map as "n/a" I get this error. The spreadsheets exports with the n/a correct I just hate getting errors

I have another issue and i thought i would ask here again because you to seem to have much more experence with COBie than me.

For systems, I have all components in one row, comma separated selected. And Export each system's associated components and types to the appropriate spreadsheet not selected. The spreadsheet export has ex. MUA-101,,,,,,,,,,,S-1_Side wall,,,,,,

where do these blank commas come from?

under the Setup Project tool, go to the Systems option, under Components in system, select the Each componene listed in its own row.

When I do that I get rows with n/a in them. In the model when I tab through the system the system has 20 components including ducts and fittings...

I think Cobie is exporting the ducts and fittings? In the Select tab i have no ducts or fittings checked, and in the COBie duct system schedule for that system is says 2 under Number of elements...

Sounds like the Include Components checkbox is checked on the Systems page. This will force all connected components to export, even if they aren't set up for the COBie Extension. Try unchecking that box and exporting.

Just to confirm, it is unchecked and you have Saved (or Save and Close) the Settings panel to apply the settings to the project?

If so, let's look at an element. Find one of the instances that are exporting blank or "n/a" that you feel should not be exporting. If you select one of them and look at its properties, is the COBie parameter checked?

Totally understand. Work with many folks in the same situation. I cannot replicate the issue so that makes it trickier. If you can make a sample file, maybe with copies of the families, and get it to do the exact same thing you are seeing in the actual model, then maybe you can share that model for review?
