So I'm guessing I should just put a 1x4, 2x2 and 2x4 half shade into the family and just have a yes/no option to display which one is needed.

Sounds like that would be the easiest..

Emergency Fixture

So I have a light fixture family that I want to add half-hatch too so it looks like the emergency fixture should. Now in the family itself I can't create a hatched area. Now I can create an annotation family and insert it into the family but my problem is is how do I have it resize when someone changes the size of the fixture? Be it 2x2, 2x4, 1x4 etec. I can't figure out how to have the annotation family resize with the rest of the family.

Thanks,

-Jason

If you use a detail item instead of an annotation, it will not be scaled like annotations do.

If you want to be able to stretch and scale the light, yeah, you'll need to use a detail item and parametrically control the shape. Unfortunately, Revit Legends aren't smart enough to operate Detail items, so checkbox shade controls won't work on a real Revit Legend. IMO, this part of the program really lacks options that we build into families and provides little function over using static symbols for legends in a project.

You actually can use dimensions, reference planes, and parameters to control the size of a single shaded region to match your 2x2, 2x4, 1x4 configurations.

I was having a problem with the shading not stretching correctly a few months ago, and this thread had a couple helpful folks post with some solutions.

If you use parameters, yeah you can link the 2D symbol to the length/width of the light and let them drive automatically. Only fail with Revit is on the Legends. You can't control the detail item controls on a legend sheet.
