BIM Object Insertion Point Clarification

Hi everyone,
I need some clarification for my very simple brain if you don't mind.
I am terrible with understanding the language given in BSi standards so please talk to me like a 5 year old.

As BIM standard BS EN ISO 19650-1/3/4 has been replaced by ISO 2014:2024 there has been a change regarding insertion points on models.

Previously, 19650 simply stated that they need to be "Insertion points should be consistent across all levels of detail and should usually be within the extent of the object".
And that's literally it. In effect "Put it where you want, but make it consistent."

But now, 22014 goes into more detail and states the following:

Insertion (origin) point shall be consistent:
— across all levels of detail and shall usually be on or within the extent of the object;
— across library object groupings;
— with graphical symbols (see Clause 7);
— with the insertion point and principal dimensions of the default convention and specific exceptions for
insertion points and for the naming of the principal dimensions in Tables 4 and 5.
Consistent insertion and principal dimensions of library objects facilitates the substitution process during
design development.
Naming of primary dimensions shall be consistent with the symbols’ property (see Clause 9).

Table 5 simply defines the definition of length/width/height etc.

I work in ventilation and most our our BIM models are of inline duct mounted fans or large floor standing AHUs
The insertion point has always been in what I consider to be the most logical place, i.e. for duct mounted fans; central to the unit and down the centre line of the duct spigots. (Point "A" below) For the larger AHUs it has always been central to the unit and at floor level.

The only place our kit seems to fit the table above is the 'default' row but this dictates insertion points should be in the lower left corner in all cases (point "B" in my image above). This seems crazy to put it there and would then require the user to realign it afterwards. Am I reading it correctly? Surely the insertion point depends entirely on the type of object the model is portraying, no?

Any help would be great.

P.S. What is a distribution object? I can't find anything online about what one actually is.

Are you required to follow that "standard"?

That requirement sounds like written by someone without practical experience and doesn't actually insert duct-mounted equipment. But I'm also 5 years old. Maybe I miss the wisdom in this.

Keeping it consistent for all similar families (i.e. duct-mounted equipment) and keeping it inside the object is the only part that really is important. Other than that, it should be located where it is easy and intuitive for the user to place with minimum need to correct the location.
