Visibility Issue In 3D View

Okay group members,

I'm having "VG" (visual graphic) issues with a REVIT file. With the central model loaded, I have the 2 "Linked Files" that I need, (the Architect walls/ floor plans & the Mechanicals) however, I can only see the mechanicals.

I know the Arch files are there however the walls / doors just seem to show in the 2D view.

As soon as I switch to a 3D view, or try to create a view with a reference plain the walls / door disappear.

Is there something I've missed or perhaps another approach to this issue? Any suggestion or help would be appreceiated.

What is the Discipline of the 3D view? Try Coordination. Check phase status and phase filter of the view.

I assume that in the links tab in VG you have the architectural link selected for visibility?

Some screenshots of your view settings would help.

Thanks to the both of you for your response. To make a long story short, it seems the person uploading or updating the central model shut something but… they can’t tell me or explain to me what they did bring back the proper view. (we are both newbies regarding working with REVIT). I’m sure it was something stupid, but, this now leads to a few more questions…

What are you talking or referring about when you ask about the “Discipline of the 3D view”? Are you asking about the shading or wireframe modes etc.? Coordination doesn’t really provide me with information that I may need.
Under the Properties Dialog Box, my Phasing (Filter & Phase) are set to “Show All” & “New Construction” I’m assuming this is correct, because like I said, “It seems everything is back”

Which lead me to one final question…

In the plan view I would like to go back to just showing walls door, and the mechanical equipment only

No tags, call outs, or dimensions…the reason for this is simple. Currently we are still designing / updating the project so having “Too Much” information is more of a hinderance than help.

Re Discipline: if you look in the properties browser for the view you will see a parameter called Discipline. The choices are Architectural, Structural, Coordination, Mechanical, Plumbing and Electrical. These are hard-coded settings in Revit and control visibility of certain items in order to emphasise the elements relevant to the particular discipline. The view phase and filter will depend on when the elements were added and how you want to view them. New Construction is Revit’s default name for a single construction phase in a project and is the one to use if you are doing a complete new build with no existing elements or demolitions. If you only have one phase (New Construction) then the phase filters have less relevance since all your elements are on one phase. The phase filters become more relevant if you have an Existing phase, demolished items and one or more new construction phases.

Re your last part, you have some choices to clean up your view:

type VG and in the visibility graphics dialogue go to the annotation tab and uncheck the show annotation objects box - all annotations will be invisible in your view. They will still exist but you won’t see them.
as above but instead of turning off all annotations you can turn off individual categories e.g. tag types etc. Again they still exist, they will just be invisible.
Create a duplicate of the view “without detailing“ and rename this duplicate as Working Plan or something. Use this for drawing/modelling and keep your other view as a presentation view for placing on sheets. The annotations will remain in the original view but not exist in the working view.
Or just select all annotations and delete them - select everything in the view, click the funnel (filter) icon, select/deselect so that only the annotation objects are selected and then delete them. With this option you will lose all of your annotations and to get them back you will need to recreate them from scratch.

I have the VG (visibility graphics) set up properly (I will recheck)
however, it seems as if there must be a seperate "override condition" on /
in the central model because I am not allowed to add (duplicate) a view,
and or uncheck any information in the dialog box. perhaps there is
something I need to do though the properties box? I'm not sure since I did
not set up the template for this Revit file

As you can see, everything is "Greyed out" and I'm not allowed to edit

I'm still investigating so... if I stumble upon a way to do this I will update the post.

Let's get the background information clear.

It sounds like there are two of you working on a project and you both are having trouble with creating views and setting them up properly.

Is there a BIM manager present that can help you out?

@Drafter1981 The greyed out visibility graphics indicate that the view settings are controlled by a view template applied to the view.
That shouldn’t prevent you from duplicating the view.

Find the view in the project browser, right click, select Duplicate.

@iainsavage Yes, I was able to create the duplicate page.. 👍 As far as the greyed out visibility graphics, I had to get permission to (a released central model) to change the view template and then re-sync. Seems the one floor I need to work on has a templates or fields that were locked down. All the other floors / levels have no (none) template:

@RobDraw Yes, there are 2 sometimes 3 of us working on the project on our end... the whole project is being managed by a 3rd party and this project is not on BIM360, or some of the other file share groups that we normally use. Thank God this is only a small project. That being said for just the 2, or 3 floors we are updating, seems like this is taking forever to do in Revit vs AutoCAD...

The key is to check out the worksets so that you “own” them rather than “borrowing” them. You can then control any changes without seeking permission from other users and it should also speed up your work.
You also need to communicate with your colleagues and agree who is doing what so that you are not all trying to work on the same elements at the same time - we find an easy answer is to create worksets for each user, which can then be rationalised/merged later in the process.
