After your spaces are placed go to the "Analyze Tab" then the "Energy Optimization" panel. Click "Generate" to generate the analysis model and then click "Systems Analysis" and run the "HVAC Systems Loads and Sizing" workflow.

You'll get a nice loads report and you can make a schedule of Analytical Spaces with the calculated load parameter.

Thanks for that, clarifies things a lot.

Only a couple of points that I would come back on -

sliver spaces have to conform to certain geometric constraints, in particular they have to have opposing walls which are parallel to one another so any other shafts which don’t conform did have to be filled by Spaces, or their walls made non-bounding, for the heating & cooling loads tool to work.properly. Quotes from Autodesk help: “Sliver Spaces are narrow areas bounded by parallel interior room-bounding components.” and “It is critical to the heating and cooling loads analysis to account for the entire building volume. This includes areas that exist as cavities, shafts, and chases”

In the energy analysis tool do the analytical spaces pass load information back to the corresponding user-placed Spaces? When I tried to use the tool there didn’t seem to be any relationship between the two, even in terms of space names but I had concluded that I was doing it wrong and I haven’t had time to go back and investigate it further.

Yes, you are correct, but I haven't had any problems with sliver spaces. If you do have an oddly shaped shaft you can add a space to it.

No, the Analytical Spaces do not pass information back into the Spaces. Only Spaces pass information to Analytical Spaces. It's important to note that this only happens when the Analytical Model is regenerated, so make sure you regenerate the model before running the loads.

I appreciate it calculates loads with ease, it even takes shading elements and soil faced elements into the account as it hsould be, however Number 2. seems to be a great problem as:

1. analytical spaces can't read parameters defined in Family elements, which is a game changer problem for me since I can't list and filter those parameters in Analytical Space Schedules as I used to easily do in Space Schedules to size heating and cooling elements based on the calculations.
2. we can't place space tags that displays Heating Loads and Cooling Loads or similar values because there is no such thing as Analytical Space tag.

I can't see any practicle way to workaround those issues. Under such circumstances as a HVACR Engineer I can say that Revit 2022 will drop value of my work quite a bit. guess I will stick to 2020 for now. I don't know what I will do with my customers who use 2022, though.
