Link is displayed differently for different users in a workshared project

When activating worksharing - all that is drawn and linked in the model up till that point will end up on "Workset1".

If you then create a new workset - let's call it "Link A" and select the linked model and change the workset to "Link A" in properties, that link will now be controlled both when closing the "Workset1" and/or "Link A". It's like the connection to "Workset1" isn't removed. The user have to unload the link, set the workset "Link A" to active and then link the model to get it to not be dependent on "Workset1" anymore.

This is just a example video to show you that dependency

In a project with multiple users, a few of them where experiencing that one of the links wasn't showing while it was showing for the others, all are running the same Revit version. All using the same views. If the ones that couldn't see the linked model was reloading it, it would show sometimes, but not always.

We thought it had to be something user specific, something in the user environment, but when opening Workset1 it would start to show. Worksets aren't a user specific setting so how is this possible? What could be causing this?

We are happy to have found the solution, but would like to understand the problem...

Anyone out there with a logical explanation to this?

Links actually have 2 placed that a workset can be set. select the link and pick Edit Type. Make sure the workset is set properly there too.

That is because elements in the link model are under Workset1. It is an unique workset that is 'transparent' through linking, meaning whatever you do to the host's model Workset1 will affect the Linked model's Workset1, regardless of you place the link in another workset. The solutions are simple: don't draw anything in Workset1 in any models; or don't mess around with changing Workset1 in the host model.

Thanks for your answers, but how is it possible that one user in the project get to see those elements and another one doesn’t? I don’t get that, since the worksets aren’t user specific…

Shouldn’t it be the same for all users in the project then? That no one can see or all can see? What could be the reason for this behaviour?

One user opens Workset1 and the other user doesn't.
