Pipe Weights (per metre)

hi there,

are there anyway of getting pipe weights for pipe types families?

we would like to add weights to our pipe spools but there aren't any weights in the families or the fittings?

That data is not included in out of the box (OOTB) Revit, you'll have to add it. Do you just want the pipe weights, or do you also want the fitting and specialties (valves, ect.) weights as well?

hi there,

it would be a total weight (pipes and fittings) we dont put valves onto our spools.

i have begun adding the weights to the fittings and will add a shared parameter to allow these to be scheduled out.

where do i do this to pipes which are different types of families from the fittings?

For pipes you need to create a Unit Weight parameter and enter the weight per unit length (for example, 5 kg per meter) for different pipe types from the pipe manufacturer (or just google them). Then create a calculated value parameter Weight = Unit Weight * Length.

Create a shared parameter:

then add a project parameter to pipes.

Manage tab-> project parameter -> shared parameter and check Pipes.

Then create a pipe schedule and add a calculated Mass parameter length * pipe weight per foot.

thanks so much for this, its much appreciated. it's just a pity the weights aren't part of the pipe properties and require to be manually entered. do you think autodesk will add this in future releases?

Not likely, I think Autodesk realized there are millions of different components that go into buildings and they don't want to be responsible for tracking down and maintaining every single piece of data, so managing the content is left to the user.

even adding a table in here for weights or somewhere. would this not be possible? even if the data has to be entered mnaually etc?
