Hello,

You can create Detail Items families to represent your components, then you can have information and even schedule them.

Hi all,

I need to know if there is any method for drawing schematics in Revit, or just we use normal line as wiring and using annotate tabs for drawing electrical equipment or devices?

Kind Regards,

Arman

You can follow whichever procedure that fits your needs and using the Annotate tab could be a valid approach for schematic drawings. However you will hardly add any information to drafted lines, and this is one of the main functions that Revit provides.

Instead of that, you may use specific families to represent equipment and devices as they can hold Symbols (both with or without 3d geometry); and families of trays, wires, conduits, etc, to represent any other part of the system.

This way allows you to bring the minimum info to the components in your model and accomplish one of the basic principles of BIM.

I agree with @fabiosato . We end up entering the info twice. Once for the plans/elevations and then again for a simplified 2D riser. In the 2D riser diagrams, we use SMART tags (Generic Annotations) which hold the parameters of items - for example and electrical feed. As @Raunamar mentioned, detail lines cannot be scheduled, but Generic Annotations can.

The ultimate way would be to model the information only once, and manipulate VG to show the schematic information - but in reality, this doesn't work because the arrangement of items within the building never lends itself to a legible diagram. I have heard of paid add-ons which can in fact link 2D diagrams to 3D information, but you will be subject to their formatting.

We've experimented with a 3D Schematic Riser. We arranged and parts and pieces Level by Level using a single vertical host face during the Schematic Design Phase to create a 3D riser. We scheduled and named/tagged/noted all the equipment. When we gained more info about the architecture, we moved everything to its appropriate place on the plans. But......then the riser diagram was gone. The positive was, once the first 3D Schematic was created and scheduled, we had a very fast boiler plate for Schematic Drawings, and we needed only basic information about the building. Especially good if you have repetitive projects or if your architect is slow getting started.

The short answer is that it can be done, but you'll need to put in a lot of work to get something that looks professional for an output.

https://www.autodesk.com/autodesk-university/class/Creating-Automated-Documentation-Dynamo-2018

This presentation is a good read on possible documentation automation for schematic plans. You can skip to the Fire Alarm Schematic section for proof-of-concept, then watch/read everything at your leisure.
