1. Use "Insert>Load Family" The "Load into project" button pushes the current family into an open project.

2. As mentioned before, place the Generic Annotation into the view entitled "Floor Plan-Ref. Level."

3. Alternatively - use the Revit default family for a duplex outlet as your starting point. Edit the family and modify the symbol family inside it. Just remember to re-name the families so you don't ruin the original.

Hello everyone,

I have a family socket and I want to change the way it is displayed between the floor plan and the 3D view. I have two screenshots as an example. It was possible in another project, but I can't recreate it. I have tried many things, including creating a visible parameter (click on it-> visible[]-> Associate Family Parameter and then on then Project browser->Edit type turning on and off), but this method works both on 2D and 3D views.

For more information about what I am asking and trying to do, please watch the 2 screenshots.

Thank you and sorry for the long/confusing text.

I initially opened this just to find out what a 'family socket' was. Never heard of that. At any rate, It looks you may be using a 'face based' family. Within the family, the 2D symbol must be a seperate, nested family of type "Generic Annotation." Create the symbol as a Generic Annotation family, load it into the 'socket' family and then place it using the family editor plan view called "Reference Level." In the family environment for face based families, orientation is different, so 'plan view' is showing the host face (which will be the wall face in a project). Even if the 2D symbol appears to be showing at the wrong orientation within the family editor (ie on the wall face) the 2D symbol will appear in plan view when you place it in the project environment. Make sure the 2D annotation is set to display in "Plan" views and not in 3D views.

First of all, Thanks for the reply. English is my second language and "family socket" made sense to me. Anyway.

I made a Generic Annotation family with the symbol that I want. Now I have 2 issues:

1) Can't "Load into Project" this Generic Annotation family into my "socket" family. (I click Load into Project and nothing is happening)

2) Most important, I don't know how to make sure the 2D is set to display in the plan view and NOT in 3D views.

Thank you again for your reply.

I am in good progress I think I did everything, except that I don't know how to set the 2D annotation only to display in the "Plan" view and not in 3D views.

I made a visible parameter in the Family for the 2D annotation. Then on the main Project, I loaded the Family, I click on the family->Properties-Edit Type-> Type Parameters-> Visibility- "Annotation 2D Symbol" [_] ->Apply->Ok.

But with this method, the 2D annotation disappears both on 2D and 3D views.

Hi,

Instead of "Generic Annotation" for 2D if you use "Detail Item" it gives you more flexibility.
