Glad you've got it sorted.

Personally I would only make the Architectural link room bounding and not bother with the structural one unless you particularly need to account for the volume of beams and columns. Autodesk help tends to suggest that when doing MEP analysis you should not make beams and columns room bounding.

One bit that confused me is "then linking back the rooms model FIRST, and then the Structural, Architectural links" - are you saying there's a linked model which only contains rooms?

Hello everyone,

I have a strange when it comes to spaces and rooms.

So in my mechanical model, I have linked another Revit file containing only the rooms, which is the reference the spaces should get their name and number from.

However, and in some cases only, when I place a space, select it and look at the parameters where the name and number info are, the enclosed room name and number are not as per the original rooms model. It is like the program reads another room for that area.

I have tried to:

- remove and load again the rooms model,

- turn off the rooms from all the linked models ,

still the problems insists.

Anyone that has come up with a solution for a similar situation?

Much appreciated in advance

Spaces don't automatically pick up the details from the rooms.

Did you use the space naming utility?

Hi,

Yes I did. But the problem is that Revit reads wrong information when it comes to some rooms. As you can see in the attached schedule, where I have placed the Room Names&No together with the Space Name & Number, there are cases where the same room name and number repeats. But this is not the case in the actual model. The rooms model I use from the designer, shows clearly different names and numbers for each of those rooms.

So not sure what is going on.

SOLUTION FOUND!

For anyone interested , I resolved the above issue, by removing ALL links, then linking back the rooms model FIRST, and then the Structural, Architectural links for which you need to check the "Room Bounding" box.

After these actions, Revit managed to read the underlying rooms correctly so after clicking on the "Space Naming" function, the spaces get the right information to match the rooms model.

Hi @iainsavage ,

In my case , I need to turn room bounding on as there are spaces that are fully enclosed when I turn on the bounding for the structural , facade model etc etc. Probably not required by the book, but it helps me have a clear picture of the spaces, otherwise there will only be an indication that the space is there but not enclosed. In any case, I guess this has to do with the project setup and all.

Now regarding the rooms, yes! in my project, there is a dedicated model , including only the rooms, so we bring this as a reference. The architectural trade follows the same principle too. I know that this is not as per the common practise but it is what it is I guess. So thats why, I said I first brought back the rooms model and then the ARC & STR

Thanks again for your reply!
