I have to start a new project(in Plumbing). For this I have to create a new pipe type(for e.g. Geberit). So, is there a way to create a new pipe type with this manufacturer, so all the available pipe dimensions, fittings and routing preferences are automatically set(other than doing it manually using mechanical settings), just by inserting a family file.

How to create a new pipe type in Revit MEP from the specified manufacturer as a family file. Instead of just duplicating an existing pipe type and change the name (manufacturers). (Alternate to BIM manager)

Thanks in advance

Create a new segment type in mechanical settings (shortcut MS), this will define the material and the inside, outside and nominal pipe diameters.

Then load the required fittings famiilies and set up the routing preferences.

Thanks for the response.

If we add a pipe family type(from a Manufacturer), then I think the routing preferences are automatically set. (by adding BIM manager tool)

Ah, I didn't realise you had the pipe type supplied by the manufacturer in Revit format, I thought you wanted to create it from scratch based on their data sheets.

If they've given you a Revit file, (usually a .rvt [edited] file which contains the pipe segments and families) then you can either:-

open their file and open your file, then whilst in your file use Transfer Project Standards and untick everything except pipe types or

select pipe and fittings in their .rvt [edited] file, copy to clipboard, paste to a blank part of your file, escape, reselect then delete.

They should though usually provide instructions on how to insert their content into your file.
