topic Invisible Linked IFC in Revit MEP Forum

Hello,

i linked a normal IFC Modell to my project but i cannot see it. The visibility graphics are all setted correctly. The funny thing is that i can select the IFC link, and by using the command Selection Box i can see the IFC in 3D correctly, but when i return to my plan views i can't see nothing.

If I look up the coordinates of the IFC link in BIM Collab it shows me the one in the picture. Could it be a problem with the coordinates? How can i solve it?

Hello,

Depending on the IFC source or export settings, Revit may not be able to convert the IFC geometry.

In this case, the file will not be visible.

Try to window select around the origin to check if multiple elements are selected.

Hello @jandem22 ,

It is difficult for me to help with confidence, unless I know more context around your situation. There are many reasons an instance or linked model would not be visible in plan view.

Option A: Here is a link to the official Revit Help page for this issue. (Click here for link. And please mark this issue as resolved, once it is).

Option B: Here's where I'd start troubleshooting just purely based off personal experience:

In the Visibility Graphics (keyboard shortcut 'VG') settings > "Revit Links" Tab, make sure that the model in question is has a checkmark next to it in the visibility column.

Ensure the workspace that the model is on is visible in your plan view:

Select the linked model. (Use the project browser if you have to)

Look in it's properties for the workset. Make a mental note of it.

Go back to your view where the linked model isn't visible.

Ensure that that workspace is visible in the VG settings. (Same ones we discussed in #A)

Hi now i realised that if I move the Survey point to the coordinates like in the picture below, I can see the link in my plan view. But is that the correct procedure? Because I always thaught I have to move the Porject Base pont, and not the Survey Point. in htis case, if I try to move the Porject Base Point to the right Position, it tells my that ii can't be placed more than 16 kilometers from its startup location.

What could I do now, to solve this problem?

Hello,

This is a really tough question, without knowing the project workflow.

Usually, I place the models so that the origin position matches.

As in the image, the survey point is unclipped. It means that changing the survey point coordinates moves the survey point without changing the model position, so you are not changing your model reference if the survey point is the reference, in this case, the position 0,0,0 of the survey point is the reference.

To confirm your model position, I suggest sending your model to the design coordinator to approve its location.
