Revit 2017 fails to print to PDF

When i try to print to PDF the loading bar either freezes or doesn't start up at all, no pdf's being made. I mainly use "multiple selected views/sheets into a single file" option.

I tried the long route by creating seperate pdf files to combine after, but even some single pdf sheets aren't being made! I've lowered the resolution and all that as well with no solution. SOO FRUSTRATING, i can't send drawing sets to clients...

Every new version of Revit comes with new bugs and issues its very frustrating....

Please help.

Try doing a repair on Revit.

Try auditing your revit file

Try purging your revit file

Try deleting all data in your %temp% subfolder

Try exiting revit, then open revit prior to printing (clears cache)

I'm also having this issue printing to PDF. Seems to get stuck mid process once the Create Adobe PDF box pops up. Sometime is will let me work in Revit while the print window is open...so it thinks it's done printing? I've also had it create the PDF, but the print window still stays open an acts like it's still working to create the PDF. Sometimes restarting REvit does the trick. Sometimes it seems like it might be related to file naming- tends to work better if I don't adjust name. Really frustrating that a 2 min process can turn into a 1 hour process at times. Issue has been with more than one project.

I'm using Revit 2017 with Adobe Acrobat DC. I have zero problems with Revit 2016 and Adobe Acrobat DC, so I think the issue is with Revit 2017, not Adobe Acrobat DC.

Seems like we have about the same issue..

A work around I've been using is to print with "CutePDF Writer" which seems to work, but I've never had to resort to using it until now.

And similar to you Revit 2015 and Adobe PDF work fine for me, so I assume its a problem with Revit 2017.

Same issues as you guys. I highly suspect that it is related to the changes in fonts they made in 2017. Not sure why they couldn't leave well enough alone in this regard. They changed how Revit sizes fonts. Which is why many of my labels got out of whack. I have printing trougle and seems like my GSN has the most trougle as the page is mostly all text. Arg!!!!

Did you guys find an solution other than the "CutePDF" solution. About to try that now.

Had the same problem. It's the PDF driver. I switched to cutepdf and it works fine

The issue seams to be related to the PDF file naming process. In the Adobe PDF print properties there is an "Adobe PDF Output Folder" option. When it is set as "Prompt for Adobe PDF Name" that is when the printing hangups happen. If you change the output folder to a specific location, or default to Documents\ *.pdf, then it seems to print just fine. I would prefer to use the "Prompt for Adobe PDF Name" as it has worked on all other versions of Revit and Adobe...without it a one-step process is now a three-step process (print to PDF, move to correct folder, rename) everytime I need to create a PDF and save it. That really adds up when you create 10-20 PDF documents a day.

I run a print preview on one sheet, and then it will let you print multiple sheets.

I bit of a hassle but it works.

When printing in Revit, go to Adobe PDF properties, uncheck box "rely on system fonts only, do not use document fonts".

Revit 2017 seems to have a real problem. Acrobat PDF seems to only work once after a reboot, then after killing the acrotray process I might get one more print out of it. Acrobat works fine in all other programs. I have installed CutePDF and NovaPDF both of them either take forever to print or they say they have printed and then when you go to the folder there is no PDF there. Both these PDF printers work fine in other programs.

The only PDF printer I have had reliably work is Microsoft PDF however it is limited by only going up to A3.

There is a serious problem with printing PDF in 2017.

Yes I'm having the same issue with 2017 and for some reason also with 2016.
I'm using Windows 10 with Adobe Acrobat Pro DC (clould version).
Only workaround is pointing the auto folder to document/*

This incident has been reported to Autodesk and a resolution for it is being investigated for a future release of Autodesk Revit.

I have this same issue. I have Adobe Acrobat Standard DC and I'm not convinced it is a solely a Revit issue as other co-workers use Revit 2017 as well, yet with Adobe Acrobat XI and it works fine.

Hey all,

Confirmed this with a customer, that when printing multiple sheets through Adobe PDF to the desktop, Revit does not hang or become "stuck" in creating PDF's. They did not have the Windows Anniversary ( Windows 10) or Windows 7 Update kb3177725

Plotting PDF's to the Desktop seems to be working on a Windows 7 machine, and on Windows 10.

***** If in Windows 10 using the Adobe PDF to print still gives you issues, download "CUTEPDF Writer" this application in Windows 10 will allow you to plot multiple sheets to the desktop without getting hung up"

Was this trial done with Adobe DC? I have trouble with this when printing to Adobe DC which is the version of Adobe that is received when adobe is purchased now. You cannot revert back to the previous Adobe version.
