Glass Material: Area Takeoff Incorrect Value

Revit can total wall material areas correctly but cant do the same for glass...

Why?

Any workarounds?

If you model glass as walls, curtain walls, curtain panels then they will be calculated as such.
Otherwise, Revit calculates area of all surfaces (think if you model a cubic meter of glass, then how would you want to calculate?).

Let me clarify, I cant calculate 2D elevation area totals (one face) of glass in elements like windows and doors correctly.

Also, I've checked to see if its calculating the total surface area, but its not, a really random area that isn't a calculation of anything that I can see; not volume, depth...idk

Right, if its apart of the walls its working fine. But try a window material schedule and see if the glass area is total the area of one face or all sides.

How is the glass in your window modeled? Can you share the family?

I was looking at the wrong thing, the window is gathering the glass materials total surface area. I've attached the window, but im sure this is just he behavior ill have to live with.

If all else fails, try painting the surface of the glass with a Material Parameter ("...param") in the Family. Still, I'm not having an issue on my end. The reported area is not always spot on, but it's pretty darn close.

Either paint as suggested, or use formula to get the glass area by subtracting the overall window area to the sash area, or use formula to get area from volume and thickness.

Try surface area take off with this family if you have time. The last one I tried to attach didnt go through.

Tried painting surface in family, but the material area is still off. And it doesn't recognize it in the project as paint. I'm sure its because its a nested paint.

Nothing wrong with it even with no paint...The Area of the six faces is 4.88 m2 exactly as reported in the schedule

Yep, it's screwy.

Simplify the sketch. You are doing dual pane. With one pane, area calculation is accurate on my end. Paint approach works too.

...are you accounting for the two glass representations you have modeled in the Family?

I didn't create the family, but is your message showing that in different coarse scales its showing just one panel? I wonder if that throws things off as well... but that's weird. I'd probably need you to explain further how your scheduling paint, because I painted one face but the square footage of paint was off in the schedule, maybe I'm doing something wrong. I made a new material, painted the two surfaces (exterior face of top and bottom pane), and its showed a completely different square footage in my paint schedule. I'll have to try it again.

I think you misunderstood. Paint the surface with a different Material. Don't Paint with the same Material as your Glass Material. Keep them as separate Materials. Those Materials will report under Material: Area Parameter - not the Material: As Paint Parameter.
