Your explanation isn't clear at all. It sounds like you are now saying that someone opened an old local file and was able to sync with central and people lost a lot of work.

I personally have no idea how this affects restoring the central model with recommended means in order to get newer work back. I'm guessing it's not going to work.

It sounds like you are at a position where what was done to create the problem is most likely going to get you some of the lost work. The central model will need to be rebuilt using a more recent local file. Do not try to sync to central.

After opening the local file using detach from central, delete to bad central model and ALL local files. Save the newly opened, detached local model as the central project file.

If that works, tell the people to never open a local file. It should only be done by qualified personnel.

What is "a wrong local file"? Or did you mean "an old local file"? As long they can still sync it with the central file then they are okay. However, a local file that is too old may not be able to sync due to many conflicts with the central file that Revit cannot reconcile.

The recommended practice is to open from central and create a new local. Everytime.

Normal usage is to open from the central and create (or append) a new local. Opening the local directly can cause problems is the file is out of date.

Local file is my backup incase something is wrong in the central file on server. I would never open old local file and then sync it. Often you cause more issues and file corruption. If you have to replace the central file, always use the check on detached from central and then override it with whatever backup you've open.

In over 10 years working with Revit, a local file was used once to recover a project. There are other more reliable ways. When multiple people are working on a project, a local file should only be used as a last resort.

Yes, this is an old file, but when users MOVE it to other position OR u see this file on any position (this is a very very old file). You double click this file, and doing something and sync on central (it still connect with the central on sever)--> and broken down everything !!
