i tried to tag in 3D with a material tag. But what parameter would show me the paint? for the material tag there isn't one that seems to be the paint.

And is there a way to show the paint in a schedule? I tried a multi-category schedule, but there only seems to be the option to show if something is painted (yes/no) and not a room name or number. i have never used a multi-category schedule before, so I know even less.

Most plans I see just list the paint of a room in the finish schedule for north, south etc. wall. That seems outdated and doesn't show the designer and client how it is supposed to look. it also doesn't work when a soffit gets a different color from the wall etc. So I figured there is a paint tool and I was able to paint a wall and see the color in 3D view.

How do I tag and schedule that? I tried to use a material tag, multi-category tag and a material take-off schedule but nothing really seems to show a paint I applied. I read tags aren't really possible, but schedules material takeoff schedules should be (just not for me)

The plans don't need to show a specific tone of color. the contractor only needs to know there is a red next to blue wall and the exact shade of color can be selected during submittals. I also think in rooms with all walls the same color, I wouldn't need 3D views. those 3D views only would be needed where walls, soffits etc. have different color.

I also generally want to know how people handle this so it is easy and error free and still gives the contractor the information they need.. I try to avoid when I paint a wall visibly white, that i then have to manually select that color in a schedule (should be automatic).

You cannot tag vertical surface paints on plan views. There are several workarounds:

- create 3D or elevation views showing/annotating/tagging the different paint materials

- create parts and change parts materials, since parts have thicknesses unlike paints, you can tag them on plan views
