Issues with Titleblock issued dates

Hi,

I am having 2 issues that for the life of me can't figure out.

ISSUE #1:

Recently updated our titleblock, however am having issues with the "Issued for Review, Issued for Bid, Issued for permit, Issued for construction" Dates. I have them set within the titleblock itself (every date is a new label with the shared parameter built into it) and when in the project file it appears with the ? that is able to be edited. HOWEVER, I don't want to have to edit the date on every sheet. I want the 'Issued for Bid' date to be edited on every sheet, but I want the issued for review, permit, and construction dates to duplicate/ stay the same on every sheet. How do I do that? I have attached an image of our Issued Date set up

ISSUE #2:

The titleblock works(minus issue #1) in the new template file. HOWEVER, if in an old project (old template too) and want to change the titleblock to this newer version that works, but then none of the Issued dates are able to be changed. How do i fix that?

Did you create a Project Parameter using the exact same Shared Parameters and assign them to a Project Category? If so, what Category?

Adding shared parameters to the title block labels is only a half of the job. You need to add the same shared parameters to the project and assign them to EITHER Project Info OR Sheets category, depends on they are per project wide or per sheet.

...or you can just create Labels in the Title Block Family that are associated to and driven by Parameters.

Yes the project parameter is the same as the shared parameter. They are under the catergory sheets which causes them to be edited on every sheet, which is fine for the bid date but not for the rest of them. I tried assigning them to Project Info, but then that makes the '?' mark not editable and if I input the dates under the project information tab they don't show up on the titleblock.

Don's assign the shared parameters to both Project Info and Sheets. Choose one OR another.

I didn't assign it to both. They currently are under sheets, which is fine for the bid date, but not for the others. So i took the suggestion to assign it to project info and unchecked it from sheets and that didn't work.

So, let's recap:

You created Project Parameters for each of those Shared Parameters in your Titleblock - using the EXACT SAME Shared Parameter from the EXACT SAME Shared Parameter Text File - and assigned them all to Sheets OR to Project Information. You then entered a value into the Parameter Fields that show up under Sheet Properties OR under Project Information for those newly created Project Parameters, and those values inputted are not populating the Labels in your Titleblock.

Is all that correct?

Do you mean the original values turn to question marks, or the new question marks are not editable?

If you are expecting the original value of the parameters to remain, no they will not, you will have to re-enter the issued dates after changing them from Sheets to Project Info category.

First create the Shared Parameters

Repeat previous step to get desired parameters

Now to create the Label

Load in the newly made parameters

Placed the label with Sample Value being todays date

Time to load into template file

In Template file, ? shows up but can not edit it

Add the Shared Parameters in that just made

Category Sheets is selected

Can edit it now on this sheet

Does not populate to this sheet

My company is not allowing the actual file to be shared, but i tried to break the steps ive taken down into screenshots. Screenshots 1-8 are in the titleblock family 9-15 are in the template file. Some screenshots have a brief description under them

You are actually entering the date into a Parameter Field under Sheet Properties and each Sheet has it's own Titleblock?

...can you please verify that both the Project Parameter and Titleblock Label are pulling Shared Parameters from the EXACT SAME Shared Parameter Text File.

...TRY THIS: Load your Titltblock into a brand new Project and place it on a Sheet. Create a Project Parameter in the brand new Project using the same Shared Parameter that the Titleblock is using and assign it to Sheets Category. Finish and go back to the Sheet with the Titleblock and enter a Value in that Project Parameter Field shown under the Sheet Properties. Does the Titleblock Label populate with that Value?

You cannot do what you have in mind since Parameters for Sheet Categories are only available as Instance parameters. Meaning they will not automatically populate the same value for all sheets. If you have to change them for all sheet instances then the easiest would be either of the following:

Either by selecting multiple sheets in the browser and imputing the values in the Properties palette
Or by using the sheet list as follows
- Create a Sheet List
- Under Sorting and Grouping >> un-tick Itemize Every instance
- input the values/dates
- Go back to S&G and tick the itemize every instance

This ended up working, I shall see if my team is okay with this solution. Adds an extra step to what they've done in the past. Past titleblocks we were able to enter in dates and have them populate without having a sheet list, perhaps the past parameters on the old titleblocks were not Instance parameters? If the shared parameters that i have now in the new titleblock were type parameters, would what i have in mind work?

If the Shared Parameter/Project Parameter is assigned to Project Information ONLY, then the value inputted into that Project Parameter Field under Project Information will populate EVERY Titleblock Label that uses the EXACT SAME Shared Parameter. In other words, the Project Information Project Parameter works as a TYPE Parameter.

....or you can just go back to what I suggested in Message #4 - Family Type Parameters to drive Labels in the Titleblock Family itself.

Sheets are treated as instances they do not have a type...you would need to input for every instance considering the fact that different sheets MAY be issued for construction at different times/intervals - for instance sometimes during construction your client ask for a design change => you need to issue an addendum with new drawings/sheets issued for constructions

Would you need to input a NEW IFC issue date for the new drawings?
OR Would you use the same/original IFC issue date of the project regardless when the new sheets are actually issued?

If the former, then you would need such labels to be instance sheet parameters

If the latter, then you need to work with Project Parameters...although these are only available as Instance parameters; HOWEVER, the project has only 1 instance. ie: the Instance in such case should behave like a type BUT the label on the title block need to be associated to a Project Info Parameter
