Creating custom truss

Update: figured it out by putting reference lines and dimensions.

I'm trying to create a custom truss, but I'm not familiar with how to do this in revit. Once it's loaded into the model, the truss distorts, not really sure the next steps to take with it.

I wouldn't bother with labeled dimensions and Ref Planes. I wouldn't constrain anything to the in-built Ref. Planes or use the in-built Dimensions. I can tell from the top screenshot that it isn't parametric. It's a 156x41 truss - period. Make it any longer or taller and it will deform.

The bottom image is at 156' - 6" long. I made the truss exactly for the dimensions I needed. The ref planes worked for me, so it'll just have to suffice. Good to know for the future though, thanks.

You don't even need the Ref. Planes. Just sketch the chords and webs - and don't align/lock any of them to the Ref. Planes that are built into the Truss Family Template.

If your concern is the shape of the truss then simply create a flat truss and attach it to a roof in the project.

Good call, @ToanDN. I'm betting that's exactly what the OP is trying to achieve.

@avacath1122: if the target roof is different types (e.g. more that one), you can do essentially the same thing with a Howe Truss by selecting the Truss in Project cross-section View and pressing "Edit Profile" on the Contextual Tab. Then redraw the Top Chord.
