Acquired Coordinates Not Affecting Separate Alignment

It's entirely possible I am missing the intention of acquire/publish. My end goal is to have an otherwise empty project that all design models are linked into using auto methods to guarantee alignment.

I have a MEP model and an Arch model. If I try to link the MEP model into the Arch model using any auto method the alignment is clearly wrong.

The MEP model was delivered already setup to link in the Arch model and it is correctly aligned once it all opens. It's worth noting that all other models (food service, etc.) align to Arch origin to origin with no issues. I would expect that I can acquire coordinates from the linked Arch model, save the MEP model with these new coordinates, and then say, open the Arch model and link MEP using auto shared coordinates and it align.

That is not the case, it still comes in as if I never changed anything at all. I have checked both models for Shared Sites and there are none.

Well, if you established Shared Coordinates, either by Acquire or Publish, then the Projects' Survey Point ORIGINS are aligning when you Link one into the other via Shared Coordinates positioning. Are you saying that is not happening?

That is correct. I've tried Acquiring from Arch into MEP and separately Publishing from MEP into Arch while they are aligned in the MEP file. However, outside of the MEP file environment I cannot get them to auto align using any method.

What do you mean by "Publishing".

Manage ribbon; Project Location panel; Coordinates dropdown; Publish Coordinates.

Okay, good. We're on the same page here.

So, you Linked the Arch into the MEP and ACQUIRED Coordinates. Then you Linked the MEP into the Arch via Shared Coordinates Positioning, and the MEP doesn't aligned in the Arch Project the same way it did in the MEP Project. Hmm... it should.

...do you have multiple Sites under Location and Site?

...wait a minute! In MEP, Acquire from Arch. You're done for all intents and purposes. MEP and Arch now Share Coordinates. No further action is required.

One other question: are we talking GIS Coordinates here? That would be a monkey wrench, for sure.

You are saying all the same things I was saying except for the part where I am not done because they do not independently align. I don't know what is magical about the alignment of Arch in the MEP model but I'd like to capture it and be able to use it elsewhere.

I have no idea about this. Like right down to I have no idea how I would even begin to compare coordinates between models.

Use it how I am describing. Those models align in that one file. How they did that is what I want to reproduce in my own file using those same models.

I have no idea how you are getting my quotes in your replies. I am trying quick reply this time to see if that works.

Anyhow, I mean when you asked if GIS coordinates were the root I would not know how to directly expose this information. I assume you mean they could be on different coordinate systems so even though the N/E numbers match they don't actually align in meatspace. I don't know where to look to see this sort of information on a model.

Insert the Arch into your Project and Acquire it's Coordinates. Then insert the MEP into your Project via Shared Coordinates. Bada Bing! Now all 3 are sharing the same coordinates.

NOTE: This workflow assumes the MEP is already sharing the same coordinates as the ARCH.

Move link to align with your.
Acquire coordinates.

I think you skipped step 2.

Specify Coordinates at Point.

I tried the following:

1. Open the MEP model which also loads the Arch model at the correct alignment

2. Publish Coordinates from MEP model to linked Arch model

3. Close the MEP model

4. Open a new project

5. Link in the MEP model using Auto-Origin to Origin

6. Acquire coordinates from the linked MEP model

7. Link in the Arch model using Auto-Shared Coordinates

8. Be disappointed because nothing has changed, alignment is still clearly off
